Commando 7

I am negotiating a deal on a late '60's Commando 7. Tractor data doesn't include this model. Is it a bit more rare? only export model?

He doesn't want money but my Kohler M16 I have just laying around.

He claims the original Kohler is running, everything is working. Mowing deck is included but needs a LOT of fabrication to get put to use.

Would this be a fair deal?

PS. are those 8" front tires stock?

I'm thinking no, but I could be wrong.

You got me curious, so I started searching around.

Tractor Data lists a Commando 7 as being powered by a vertical shaft engine.  Other sources, including old posts here in this forum, talk about knocked down tractors being shipped from the U.S. to the Belgium factory for assembly.  These were done in the late 60's and had horizontal shaft engines.

Looks like you have found a Belgian horse.  Pretty rare, I'd guess.

It would be wise to check how the kohler starts and runs cold and hot.  Also quickly pull/reinstall the transmission drain plug to check for water and metal filings.  Drive it and run it through all the gears.

“Jane” is a Commando 6.  Note the skinny front tires.  See how they fly.    @8ntruck there was a Commando V7 Stateside, but I believe the Horizontal flavor was European market only.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

Oops.  I just checked @Maxwell-8 location.  He is in Belgium.

The horizontal shaft late 60's Commando 7 won't be as rare there as they are here.

That commando is the only 60's Horse I know of here in the EU. So it is rare if there are not many in the US

I think it is USA-made since the WH factory strated production a year later in 1969. Found out that commando 7's were a one year run in 1968.

Thanks for your input!
