JPWH 6,040 #1 Posted December 30, 2021 I have read some use marine grease. Some say grease leaves voids. The manual says to lubricate with semi fluid grease. There is a grease zerk that lubricates the pivot shaft and the steering box. How do you get the semi fluid grease in there and know when it is full? Thanks in advance, Jay
wallfish 17,011 #2 Posted December 30, 2021 The one I did for a Roof 60 has a plate on the side to open it up. it needed to be cleaned and new bearings. I filled it with JD corn head grease. You can buy that stuff in tubes which go in a grease gun. It should push the grease in and air out through the shaft seal. 00 grease or Lubriplate 105 engine assembly grease are thin greases too 2
peter lena 8,634 #3 Posted December 30, 2021 @JPWH typically those greases are a POLYUREA RATED lubricant , meaning they recover them selves after thinning in use. that was a J/D set up to prevent failures. going word for word with a manual , is not what you experience while in service , too many variables to change that , should see a slight pressure build up at grease gun , and at related sealing point , pete
JPWH 6,040 #4 Posted December 31, 2021 I found the 00 grease at NAPA. Just waiting for the gasket to arrive so I can fill, adjust, and install it.
JPWH 6,040 #5 Posted January 3, 2022 This is the grease gun I will be using for the 00 grease. Estate sale find for $3.00. Never seen one before but after cleaning and changing the tip it works great. 1
