Rj-58 patina restoration

Recommended Posts

whtractors24

I acquired this 1958 rj up in Canada about a week ago . My goal with this project is to return it back to a nice Original and put a deck back under it like it had when it was new . ( the belt  guard tells it had a mower deck ) .

I will not be using any oil based lubricants as the chances of ever restoring will be diminished.

How did you get them to go from bead blasted to paint then to the bottom picture?

At what point does a collection turn into a hoard?

I bet that few to none of those have run in the past five years, and when the hoarder passes they will be sold as scrap by the family.

I'm a hoarder myself, but NOTHING like that!

:eusa-hand:  Seems it really only becomes an issue when you can't stop looking.

Probably somewhere between my 7 tractors and that big warehouse full! I have less than half of what I used to. He probably has more than both of us on just one row in there!

That's alot of Wheel Horses!

Yes it sure is!

I think the big difference is that the tractors that we own and love are for the most part all RUNNING and in good condition mechanically, or if they are not, they are in the process of becoming so.

This guy has got a mess of stuff there that probably either doesn't run, or never will again.  He's obviously not keeping them as cherished collectibles, or even as daily driver workers.

Got to give him credit he has 500 machines or so all under a roof or 2.

How many run, and will ever be used for something, whether work or show?

OK, so he at least thinks enough of his hoard to put them under roof, at least there is that, but it's still a hoard.

There are surely a few I could do without…  weighing in somewhere around 35 Horses.  Wow that sounds like too much when I could them out… but they are spread out over 4 of us!  That averages to less than 10 each!  Better keep my eyes open still!  :ROTF:

Kevin I think I'm pretty safe in saying that you have a very good start on a hoard. :teasing-neener:
