Ifixoldjunk 778 #1 Posted December 26, 2021 “not a creature was stirring not even a mouse” well, as it turns out that’s kinda a lie. A mice decided that all the wonderful poison in my barn wasn’t tasty enough and instead decided to munch on some coil wire and ground wire. the coil doesn’t have enough damage to justify replacing it, however that ground running behind the engine shroud from the starter is just about bare. Seeing that it’s only a ground, I believe it shouldn’t be the worst thing to leave it as is until I have some free time to take it apart. Probably next spring cause it’s my only means of clearing snow currently. Thoughts?
roadapples 6,983 #2 Posted December 26, 2021 (edited) If it's a ground wire, should never matter Supposedly they don't like peppermint oil... Edited December 26, 2021 by roadapples

IIFF the ground wire won't contact anything and shut the tractor down at the wrong time it really won't hurt anything. Mice are extremely fickle about what they like or don't. Search this site and Google and you'll find dozens of helpful things that may or may not rid your area of the no good rotten sonova........ 2
Ifixoldjunk 778 #4 Posted December 26, 2021 so I went out and got some mothballs to keep under the hoods of my tractors when they’re being stored in the barn. That should keep those little sucker out😄 1
ebinmaine 67,496 #5 Posted December 26, 2021 Should help. You might try a different brand or type of poison too. It's legitimately possible they don't like the taste of the current one.
wfrpalm 218 #6 Posted December 26, 2021 I keep the backs of my car rear seats down all the time and when I raised one the other day the seat was covered in acorns and droppings, I hate mice. ,

They’d probably like the more natural based poisons🤔

953 nut 55,228 #9 Posted December 27, 2021 A few years ago my wife's car had a strange noise that became louder when the heater fan was set to a higher speed. Pulled the fan motor (what a PITA) and found a rather tattered looking dead mouse inside the squirrel cage fan.
pfrederi 17,739 #10 Posted December 27, 2021 I know a lot of people will suggest dryer sheets. I tried that the mice used them to build its nest. The are very weak pulled in one direction exceedingly strong lengthwise. Wrapped around the bendix and jammed every thing up had to pull the starter motor...

They smell bad. I have good luck with them.

WHX?? 48,815 #17 Posted December 27, 2021 Went to visit my girls in a neighbors enclosed lean to yesterday. Check on the battery chargers and such and say hello. Soon as I pulled the garage door open a pine squirrel took off. Now there's a rodent that can do some damage. Then I noticed the neighbor feeds birds.... Now I like to feed birds too but throw out the mice welcome mat. At home I got at least five outdoor cats that hang around and take care of business. Off to get some poison for the winter quarters.
WheelhorseBob 1,549 #19 Posted December 27, 2021 I had a severe mouse issue and went to war. Victor traps with peanut butter. Check them daily. Went from 6 in one day to one a week. And I think that one isn’t a resident but attracted too the bait. I tried the poison stuff once, they packed my muffler full of it🤔
Jeff-C175 7,202 #20 Posted December 28, 2021 Mice are bad... now Rats... oh much worse! They tore down an abandoned building about ohhhh, maybe 1000' away several years ago. Place must have been FULL of rats. They ran for the hills and every neighbor for about a quarter mile radius was infested with them! Between the poison, snap traps, and my sniper's nest in the upstairs bathroom eventually we took care of them. JINX! Haven't seen one in years.

Turns out she had a sticky cardboard trap down for mice and a mouse had indeed become adhered to it then a small snake approached the mouse from the other side and as it attempted to have an easy lunch it was stuck to the trap also. I couldn't get the snake free so I put the whole trap in a puddle with the mouse at the deep end. The lady said she checked on it a little later and the snake was gone so guess it worked.
