Long story short, none of this cost me more than 50 dollars or free each. Some people....   Cub 682 sitting 15 years with original KT17 parked because deck was shot. Free. John Deere 575 skid steer sitting 5 years since starter died. Starter is fine, ground wire broken. Free. Ingersoll 4018 sitting 3 years. Never used for mowing and pulled a garden trailer. 343 original hours. Was told motor threw a rod but was completely full of oil about 8 quarts. Free. Cub 108 failed project in progress. New points, coil, condenser and carb it wouldn't run. Guy didn't know how to time. Free. Troybilt Horse sat 2 years. Coil fell onto flywheel and shroud beaten with a hammer thinking it would fix it. Installed new solid state coil and blower cover. 10 dollars. Wheel Horse Auto 12 sitting 25 years outside but motor covered, not running yet but working on it slowly. Can't believe why something can be diagnosed and repaired easily is discarded so quickly. Not bad being a garbage man

To be honest, I would have to do the same thing with a piece of electronic equipment. Someone else may have it up and running in 30 minutes. :confusion-shrug:

My experiences with horses have been quite bumpy, My raider 10 took 1 year of working, diagnosing, waiting on parts, fixing this fixing that.  Tranny shot, engine not running, leaks everywhere, busted a 55$ brand new bearing installing it. Busted a hub, which required welding up.

My c175, wasn't to easy either, still can't get the engine to start, needs a complete new electrical system, starter rebuild. new charging coil.

But who is persistent shall win.

I know next to nothing about stators and how to rebuild them, but I did check out the video that @Gregor just posted...  Turns out, Norman at iSaveTractors also has a nice tech article to go along with his video:

Engine Science: Rewind Your Small Tractor Engine Stator - Charging System Repair - iSaveTractors

Normans video explain it very good how to do it.

you just have to take care you cleaned the stator before first winding as smooth as you can.

A smoothened cover with a clear foil like tesa or similar prevents any shorts after you made your Windings.

The counts of Winding and the thickness of the wire is depending on how many current or better

how many Power you can get from your new stator.

Depending on the clean Work and your patience while rewinding, it results in a better performing Coil.

there is no witchcraft, simply a doing.

good Luck.
