wallfish 17,000 #1 Posted December 23, 2021 Can a small dorm size fridge compressor be used to compress air running continuously? I know enough about appliances only to be dangerous. I'm looking to compress air to about 13-15 PSI continuously and a fridge compressor is quiet which is also desired. The compressor for this project needs to be durable and run continuously for years which is why a fridge compressor came to mind. Right now the system uses a specially built 24v DC diaphragm compressor but they are kind of loud. I'm looking to improve on what we are doing now. This project is for bubbling the water in private wells to remove radon and other gases from the drinking water.
squonk 41,133 #2 Posted December 23, 2021 Today's fridge compressors are junk. You' d be lucky if it lasted at all. Plus they use oil that attracts moisture that the air you suck in will have plenty of..if you could find an old tank of a fridge from an old R12 unit it would be an interesting experiment.
