I repaired a chain saw for a neighbour. It had been left standing fir a couple of years so I drained the tank, cleaned the carb, refilled her and sharpened the chain. Ran like a good un, job done.

He used it flawlessly for a few days then called to say it wouldn't run right and that petrol was pouring out if it did fire.

Yep, gas in the chain oil tank and oil in the gas tank.

Another clean out and a wipe up of his embarrassment charged for lol.

Fluid to tank reversal is something I have to be VERY conscious of.

The 3 chainsaws I use regularly have different gasoline/chain oil fill areas.

Nearly copied your story yesterday..........

I'm really thankful that my chainsaws all have those cute pictures on the gas and oil caps to help me out!

This was back several years ago. I had a brand new cell phone. Back when NOT everyone had one. Right after when people were installing them in their cars and every cell phone had a pull out antenna. I went to the grocery store. Parked my car walked into a very busy grocery store and did my shopping. Pushing the cart full of groceries back to my car I notice something laying on the ground in the center of the isle in the parking lot. As I get closer I see that it is a cell phone. My first thought was, look some dumb a$$ dropped their cell phone. I get closer and pick it up...... yup, you guessed it... it was MY phone. Still cant believe no one picked it up or it didnt get run over. Luck was with me that day, I should have went back inside and bought Lottery Tickets.

Well of course not.

Nope, I've never ever ever done anything like you describe...

...Like 10 times an hour!

Looked for my glasses that are on my head. Looked for tools at least ten minutes that are in my pocket. I've even asked my wife where my phone was once- OVER THE DANG PHONE.

A favorite...out of many. Refill the Farmall M with oil after a change.  pouring merrily away from the first gallon jug then noticing  a pool of oil spreading on the floor.  Drain Plug?? sitting on the hood right in front of me as i poured...

Yeah did the same thing but with a Radiator in My old Yanmar tractor.  Boiled out repainted repaired mounting bolts.  New drain plug(just had a rusty leaking bolt before)  Installed and checked all bolts belts bypass hoses tight.  Went to put coolent in and right on through to the drain pan I luckily still had under.  Doh  Hope that you are well.
