Moparfanforever 851 #1 Posted December 21, 2021 I just recently got this sun baked C101 and I am thinking about swapping in the solid mounts. Do you have to pull the engine to do the swap?? This is my first shaker . How much oil does this style oil pan hold ?? Thanks !!
oldlineman 1,481 #2 Posted December 21, 2021 Why do u want to remove the shaker plates? I have had a 1979 c-101 from new and have zero problems with them. Plowed alot of snow and mowed a lot of grass over 42 years still going strong with no problems. Bob
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,046 #3 Posted December 21, 2021 Oil capacity 1-1/2 quarts. Click on the fuzzy picture in the link for the chart

Figured solid mounts would be cheaper than buying the OG style rubber mounts.
Tuneup 1,433 #6 Posted December 21, 2021 I installed mine with the engine in place. It was a royal pain to get all 4 large bolts to thread and that engine is not very light. Seems the only way to do it. Good luck!
ri702bill 8,328 #7 Posted December 21, 2021 Not much different than a C81 Do both at one end but not tight - pry and wiggle the other end to do the same - then tighten all 4. Been there . done that ....
Moparfanforever 851 #8 Posted December 21, 2021 Thanks for the replies, going to try to install the solid mounts with the engine in the tractor.
pfrederi 17,741 #9 Posted December 21, 2021 Lots cheaper this way but you do have to lift the engine to do it 3
oldlineman 1,481 #10 Posted December 21, 2021 yea if they are bad then solid would make sense, mine just aren't bad after all those years. Bob
Gregor 4,846 #11 Posted December 22, 2021 You don't have to remove the gizmo, simply loosen it.

I haven't looked under the tractor yet, but it looks like maybe getting to the bolts on the front gizmo might be a pain ??
Tuneup 1,433 #13 Posted December 22, 2021 Yeah, the rear is more accessible if I recall correctly but that front requires a little more in the way of suspension and PTO effort. I approached the job thinking it would be a cake walk but even leaving the entire setup loose, getting those last two in there was very difficult. Ah well. SylvanLakeWH 25,598 #14 Posted December 22, 2021 Perhaps stacked washers would be a cheap and easier to install solid alternative? Just musing. Have not done it…
WheelhorseBob 1,549 #15 Posted December 22, 2021 I haven’t installed solids but in my complete restoration of my c161 I reinstalled the rubber mounts. It was a pita to line everything up. Just take your time and employ patience. You can do it.
