What your radio station

….every station to an opera station, cranked the volume…

I don’t see what his problem was.   That’s the ONLY way to listen to opera!

We don’t have an opera station here in STL and our good classical station died about 10 years ago only to be replaced by one that has a broadcasting range of 75 feet and seems to have a limited record collection.

I don’t like much country, never liked loud rock, I’m too old for pop, not old enough for bubblegum music, can’t take jazz, and R&B isn’t my thing.  Can’t say I’ve ever listened to a blues song. None of which is to say I don’t like select songs from any of them, but it means I hunt around a lot if I’m in a music mood.

usually I just let my wife or daughter pick the programming and I zone it out.

It took forty something years to figure out why my tastes are so narrow, but at some point I realized it was the noises from the electric guitar.   It’s my equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard.

So that leaves talk radio - the downfall of western society - for my solo in-car time unless I have a classical or big band playlist running.

If you’re relegated to listening to talk radio like I am, be sure to listen to at least two opposing perspectives because no single source is giving you a good story.  They are all selling a point of view and are all painting an incomplete picture.  ALL of them.

Radio Paradise.  It’s an app, so probably not technically a “radio station,” but there’s some good toonage there not heard elsewhere.  Also plays material by known artists rarely/ever heard before.  Oh, and no commercials. 😀

There's two kinds of music that I can't stomach...

Rap; people talking when they should be singing.

Opera; people singing when they should be talking.

When I used to pick my kids up from school I would put the windows down and pull in the bus circle with Oprah music blasting just to embarrass the heck out of them. Then when they went to grab the door handle I’d pull up a foot or so! Then after a while they’d pretend like they didn’t know me when I pulled up to get them!!!

I might have done the same. "I'll meet you in the next block, Dad"!

Here in Poughkeepsie NY I like to listen to 106.9 or 89.7 when I'm out in the garage.  Both are Christian radio stations.

I’ve never heard Oprah sing, but with as many other accomplishments she’s made I wouldn’t be surprised if she could belt it out with the best of them.
