No thank you on the coyotes. We have plenty. Like extra plenty. The bobcats we'd love to have but they're already here and they're very territorial so I guess we're going to have to decline those as well. Bears and moose you can go ahead and send up at any time.

Just seeing this thread. Nice pool and garden area. Had a swimming pool at the old house and the tree frogs used to surround it in the spring to serenade us. People would visit on a spring evening and ask what the heck it was. They lay thousands of eggs. Had early spring surgeries 3 of the past 4 years and was late getting the pool cover off. Swarms of tadpoles in the wcan't be silting up ater pooled on top of the cover. Sadly no survivors. New house is high and dry but a little pool near the brook bordering the MIL's garden would be nice. Probably get visits from the DEP, EPA, and so on. China lake and the other local ponds seem to have turned the corner on China Lake syndrome over the past decade or so, and nobody wants backsliding.

I'd bet if you just grabbed a shovel and went to working through the evenings no one would see it or realize it changed...

 

 

I'm actually already thinking about expanding this little pond when/if I get the excavator machine back for other work.

Unless things have changed, it was no dig for 75ft from a brook or stream. No cut within 25ft. Without a permit. Also a pond the size of 1/10 of an acre can be dug without a permit.

I haven't looked up the statutes but that sounds about right.

We been working in the new garden site area tonight.

 

Trina stopped on the way home from work and picked up some baled soil.  

 

We tossed it in the trailer and hauled it down the paths to the area.  

 

 

Trina was using her tractor with the mid mount grader blade to pluck out the big stuff and level the land. 

 

 

 

 

Me and the Mama were using hand tools to get rocks sticks roots etc out. 

 

 

 

Got quite a nice pile going and several smaller ones.

I've had that thought several times myself.

 

It's important to remember that we live in a literal glacier waste boulder field so we have a higher number of rocks than normal even for New England. 

That said, even if somebody was trying to clear half what we are by volume so that they could eek out some sort of a meager living in hopes that natural disasters would be leaving them alone...

Well, that's just a huge chance to be taken.

You can clearly see the new garden site. Nice and smooth. We've hauled close to half of the 10 yds of loam in there.
