Removal of black plate under steering wheel

1975 c100 trying to install a new light to the front and rear problem I'm having is I cant get the metal plate off that's behind this black plate my question is am I gonna have to remove the gas tank to get back there?

Gas tank should be the fuel line and the spring that holds the tank in. Pretty easy. then you can get to the light switch.

Yeah it doesn't look to bad just wanted to make sure that I'm going about this the right way

Sounds like Squonk has you fixed up.

While your in there clean up any dirt / corrosion on the ignition switch and plug.

 yes he does thankfully the tank was pretty much empty
