Skwerl58 707 #1 Posted December 14, 2021 I have an opportunity to look at a GT 14 Automatic that has not been started in years but has been stored in a shelter. They said it will not move so need to figure how to load it. What do I need to do to get the rear wheels unlocked to load-unload? Also have opportunity to look at a 1054. I like the idea of a GT 14 auto to go with my 414-8. Any thoughts on these tractors?
daveoman1966 3,759 #2 Posted December 14, 2021 The GT-14 has a Sundstrand Hydrogear and can be pushed SLOWLY by turning the PUSH/TOW VALVE ...aka 'Free-wheeling Valve'. The Valve is on top of the Hyd Pump END CAP and looks like this. Turn the valve 90 degrees to push/pull the tractor...SLOWLY. You will also need to release the PARKING PAWL (brake) to push/pull the tractor by engaging the hydro pump...as if the tractor was running.... Similar to this BRAKE LEVER (C) in this 2nd photo. (2nd photo is a C-120---don't have pic of GT-14 lever, but is similar function.)
pfrederi 17,866 #3 Posted December 14, 2021 (edited) The tow valve on a GT-14 is cleverly hidden under the seat.. I finally drilled a hole at the black X so I could move the valve (Blue TV) more easily. Edited December 14, 2021 by pfrederi 1

Paul @pfrederi has you covered on the tow valve location. Did the seller give you any information about why it was in the shed so long?
Skwerl58 707 #5 Posted December 15, 2021 They just haven't been needed or used in years. I possibly could end up with them both. Just waiting on a text to come check them out. I will have my trailer with me for sure.
Sailman 1,294 #6 Posted December 31, 2021 I have a GT 14 that was my first wheel horse. Really rough but managed to get the tires inflated enough to move it. Engine started ok with some coaxing and runs fine now. Had a leak in the rear end housing needle bearing that I patched with JB Weld. Was all working ok until the day I hooked up a 5x8 trailer. Took it down the road and barely made it home with poor pulling and unpleasant noises. Don't know if its the rear end or the hydro pump. Will work on them in the future. The GT 14 is a real beast! Was WH top of the line in its day. If the engine and hydro are good its a great tractor. Hydro is hard to get rebuilt due to unavailability of parts unlike the C series hydros. Good luck with the GT 14!!
