Painting with a gun

Once again, I have transformed my garage into a paint booth. I said I was never going to do that again, 3 paint booths ago. I am priming and top coating with a gun. The color is single stage paint. I may have made a mistake in choosing a gray primer, as the color coat is light blue. Maybe should have had more contrast. So far, I am pleased with the first coat of primer, but then, it's only primer. Can you believe it, all this for a Lawn Boy?

Nice setup, looks well illuminated. Careful with the plastic dropcloths for static electricity buildup. Ventilation?? - not seeing any.

While I am actually spraying paint, I have the garage door open ~ 2 feet, with 2 box fans sucking out as much as they can. I also shut down my heater. After spraying, I let the fans run an additional 10 minutes or so. Then I shut the door, and turn the heat back on. I let the garage get back up to 78F before spraying another coat.

 

Here's a tip! DO NOT spray paint while your wifes brand new charcoal colored van sits right outside. It doesn't stick hard, but it's still not fun to get off.

After that episode, she wrecked the van. Whole front end had to be replaced anyway.

I can vouch for this advice! Except it was red overspray on a silver Tundra. Closest so far that she came to hurting me!

I worked the summers thru high school for a painting contractor that refinished refrigerators right in the home - portable paint booth setup in the kitchen - 20" box fan in the window. Droplet painted a car or two that parked next to the fan - my "helper" had the job to either move them or clean them up while I was painting - boy, they learn fast!!

For future reference a clay bar works very well at removing over spray

Back in the 70's we did not have the clay bars - used Prepsol to clean and had to wash & rewax the car!!

This morning the paint is dry, mostly. I can take my thumb nail and mar the paint some, but I cannot scratch it off. I believe with a full 2 days drying time, it will become even harder. will tell.
