ebinmaine 67,317 #1 Posted December 13, 2021 On Trina's 867 short frame tractor we've been using a plow and rear axle bracket that was originally on a long frame, 74 c160. I now have a plow frame for a short frame tractor and I'd like to use it on her 867. That would free up her existing frame for usage on one of my other long frame tractors. I understand that the early snow plows which were all short frames had a rear axle bracket that faced forward, not down, as the later models do. Will a short plow frame mount on a short frame tractor with a down-facing bracket? Or do I need to acquire/make a forward-facing bracket which will move the plow frame forward a couple inches? Maxwell-8 4,275 #2 Posted December 13, 2021 I have sold 3 lf brackets, only once seen a snow plow, and its was a short frame. The mounting on the plow itself looked different. But I am not the expert so...

It will but the angle handle will be in a different spot and the plow blade will be closer to the front tires. Take the bracket off and put it on the front of the transmission. No need to get another bracket.
SylvanLakeWH 25,501 #4 Posted December 13, 2021 I ran my C105 with this old short frame bracket for years. The mounting bolts run parallel to the ground…obviously blade not hooked to bracket in these old photos… Previous owner had rigged up and modified blade as well. Worked fine. Same blade also works with the correct bracket as well…which is what I use now…

I did it to be able to use a trailer hitch that's bolts the same direction. Is a stock WH made short frame bracket that low to the ground? I thought they were closer to axle centerline which is my concern... I figured the plow would be too close to the tractor frame.
SylvanLakeWH 25,501 #6 Posted December 13, 2021 It looks “stock” but who knows… it’s older than dirt and pretty rough… still works though…
ri702bill 8,294 #7 Posted December 13, 2021 Eric: Yup, the angle iron crossbar hangs down just as shown. Same setup on Dad's 702 (retired from yardwork, but a great backup tractor). For what it is worth - you can swap out a 48" plow moldboard and angling rod with a 42", using the early 42" frame. Did that on the 854.
ri702bill 8,294 #8 Posted December 13, 2021 @ebinmaine One more item - check your plow quadrant to see if it has either 3 (early style) or 5 holes (later style) - I added the 2 mid position pull pin holes to my early 3 hole unit - they are handy to have when you wish to push and have a bit of angle to roll snow off to the side.... Bill We have three or four of those plow quadrants laying around. All of ours are the early three hole style. One of the upgrades I want to do sometime soon is drill out that mid position hole. I agree it would be very handy.
squonk 41,040 #11 Posted December 13, 2021 The distance between the hooks on the older SF bracket is 11" The distance on the newer LF bracket is around 17". I have the 17" bracket on my 953 and 857. I have a LF plow on the 953 and a SF plow on the 857. The same 17" bracket will work on both plows. The LF bracket will attach the SF plow on the outside. The bar in back of the plow is the same length.
