Low air pressure works a lot better the high.  I use just enough to keep the tire round...maybe 4 or 5 lbs.  I do not use chains or wheel weights.  Air in your tires is easy to experiment with.  :occasion-xmas:

One very good trick...if your blade frame is twisted a little (your blade does not set flat on the surface) you can use air in your tires to balance out that twist.  :eusa-think:

I run normal pressure in the tires but I have chain tighteners to keep the chains from slipping.

One question not to get off subject but is that forward/reverse handle original? I'd like mine to be up like that on my 73 no name auto .

Nowadays, there are crazy rearends that wind up and zing and wow and in theory stagger doesn’t always make much difference.  People boast about how their differential is better than ever before, then spend half the race day checking tires still.  :eusa-doh:

:WRS:

I install the chains with the tire deflated and then pump it up to 8 to 10 PSI. This snugs the chains up a little and is the recommended pressure from the owner manual.

My days of turning wrenches on our short track car were back in the late 60's to mid 70's. OLD school - 3/4 ton Ford floating axle truck rear end with locked differential and 6:67 gears.

A round of wedge in or out, or bite as some call it, tire diameter and pressure and that was what you had to work with ....

My 73  16hp Auto is the same as yours, with the motion lever between your legs.  They changed that on the 74 models.  I believe it was a one year thing.
