Goldnboy 927 #1 Posted December 12, 2021 I have been restoring a grader blade over the past few weeks. And it reminds me why I hate storing equipment In a shed with a dirt floor that gets wet. This blade was located in a guys lean to and was covered in dirt . The corrosion did a great job on the blade and made the pivot stuck.
Goldnboy 927 #2 Posted December 12, 2021 I managed to get the pivot separated from the blade using a hydraulic jack as I seen done for the axle hubs.

Goldnboy 927 #4 Posted December 12, 2021 Now I am at the cleaning stage where you can see the harsh work the dirt floor storage dirt to the blade. I have already went through two abrasive disc's cleaning this up.

ri702bill 8,350 #7 Posted December 12, 2021 Yup, the L/D (length to diameter) ratio is high, probably 6 to 1 or greater, as it needs to be on this application, but - a great place for it to rust up solid. Any way to drill and cross drill for a grease fitting ?? Just a thought. Bill

ri702bill 8,350 #10 Posted December 12, 2021 @Goldnboy - Sad to see that - crearly a lack of maintenance. @peter lena would NOT approve ..... @squonk HF Needle Scaler - Have one - a Great tool - absolutely need to wear glasses with side shields when using - the rust and crud just flies off - once you learn the correct angle and speed. peter lena 8,639 #11 Posted December 12, 2021 @ri702bill no doubt about it , the majority of stuff i see is neglected almost to a brag point ! been steadily going the other way for a very long time , nothing that i have has a lack of lubrication problem, everything works with a solid smooth easy start, think i will stay on the greasy side , pete 3

peter lena 8,639 #16 Posted December 13, 2021 @Jeff-C175 , wearing a Tyvek slick suit , taped up ankles and wrists , slowly lowering yourself thru the hatchway to a roap ladder , full face air supply , glass lined tank inspection , for cracks or flaking , that would have to be very carefully ground clean , complete visual anti static wipe down . tank would then be tested , CBT , clean by test , with laboratory wash out sampling . the tank was then certified clean for food grade make up work , like the artificial hopps for miller beer . beer in clear bottles will spoil with natural hopps , that's where we came in with HOPP 2 artificial hopps . dark beer bottles have natural hopps . our artificial hopps was so concentrated , 5 gal plastic deltangular feed jugs , would make 25 thousand bottles of miller beer , use those same feed jugs today to hold my waste oil , got a used pass for them , pete

squonk 41,161 #22 Posted February 10, 2022 If you want a mid grader that "really works" find an Allis-Chalmers/ Simplicity mid grader. About 3 times heavier than a WH model and simple to modify to install on a Horse
