C-125 snow blade mods for easier lifting

Recommended Posts

tractorbeast

has anyone did mods to their C series, or any other for that matter, for an idea to make a snow blade easier to lift for an older guy with a rotten left shoulder. Its a 48" blade which is heavy on its own. I have a 42" but I wouldn't think 6" less steel is really going to help enough. (I could be wrong about that though) The right side angle adjustment is not a problem for me. No hydro on my snow plow tractor

A linear actuator motor would be a home built version of the electric lift.

Could be mounted at the front of the tractor.

I've been thinking about the same thing since mounting my plow (the 42" is just as heavy) on my C-125.

I used to run it on my 175 which has hydro lift which the 125 lacks.

I was actually shocked at how much effort is required to manually lift that thing!

I'm thinking of a lift assist spring like on the snow throwers, but not sure if lightening the plow is a good idea.

Do you have a lift assist spring for your blade?

Where would that be installed?

It attaches to the flag, and the rod that holds the foot pedals

That I'm not sure about. Not sure where it would be.

But there must be a way to engineer and install a spring I think, just not sure how badly it would affect operation of the plow.

Can't make the plow too light!

I have a few actuator's from lift chairs. Has anyone seen this type system installed and have a picture possibly.

I would really like a foot pedal control for raising and lowering the blade.

@KrazeyOlDave and I were shooting the breeze about this at one point.

I can try to contact him if he doesn't answer here.

A bracket could be made at the front to hold the actuator.

How much weight are we talking about lifting for the actuator? Not the weight if the entire plow, but how much to actually lift.

The setup I'm considering lifts the entire plow.

@KrazeyOlDave Sold me his actuator lift unit , I have not installed due to many life problems. He probably still has pictures. I will try to photo parts this weekend.

@rig854, notice the eye bolts on the bottom of the hood  mount ? have those on my horses , always a place to add a spring to , add a matching eye bolt  to the frame mount , with turnbuckle , dial in what you want , this is not difficult , pete
