RED-Z06 2,479 #1 Posted December 9, 2021 Back when i ran racing karts we used a device called a Mycron or Digitron gauge that could measure egt, cht, lap times, etc...really good info to have. I found an inexpensive modern option on Amazon that tells you Volts and CHT. pretty simple..the copper ring gives under the spark plug, and 2 leads to the battery. Alternates between the 2 and allows a program to be set that alerts to hi/lo voltage and high temps. I took it out in 72* ambient temps on my C100 and with the deck on in 2nd gear i saw a maximum of 344⁰, dropping to 320⁰ with the deck off and holding there. Upon shutdown it heat soaked to 380⁰ then fell. Im going to 2 sided tape the display on the dash...if i like it ill get or make a more permanent mount. Its useful though, i know...up around 400⁰ you start to lose power and 425⁰ you start to hurt the oil, rings, etc.
Moparfanforever 874 #2 Posted December 9, 2021 I still have two of those from kart racing days also. Could be wrong , but I think they were specific to Briggs 5HP ?? Maybe that was just the tach , the lead just zip tied to the plug wire. Have a link ??

If you have a mycron or Digitron they were universal to small engines, wrap the inductive pickup wire around the plug wire, washer under the plug...boom. squonk 42,588 #6 Posted December 12, 2021 Tach may not work right on a Kohler K series. The Kohler fires once every other revolution off the camshaft as opposed to Briggs and Teckys that fire off the crank.
