The Gman 476 #1 Posted December 8, 2021 After a week of lubricate, heat beat and repeat I finally got the slot hitch pin out. Had to cut it off then push it back and forth with a puller. Then I had to chisel off the case nuts to separate. It's not over yet. Could not the shifter out of gear so I reluctantly had to break one of the shift forks. Then I saw why. I'm not giving up on it, I've come too far. Wish me luck. 3

WHX?? 48,828 #3 Posted December 9, 2021 (edited) Yep that's a nasty one G. Just for a little inspiration guy I saved this one. She is a bit noisy due to the lost clearances between gears but she went into a show ride around and light duty worker. I am missing why you had to bust the fork to get it apart tho? Input shaft issues or the shift rails brown welded? Got a little pic heavy... I'm not sorry... you know how pic happy these guys are. Use your shout out you need parts or help. Note the last pic the TWO drain plugs. I drill and tap another one for the over the hump drain. Also highly recommend installing magnetic plugs. I make my own. WHX?? 48,828 #5 Posted December 9, 2021 Nope not at all are alone. This one I did was just the worst. It pains me when I split one and it's clear to see where the water level was in ther.

roadapples 6,983 #7 Posted December 9, 2021 Looking at Jim's pictures, I noticed the "hump" isn't as high as I thought where the halves go together...
WHX?? 48,828 #8 Posted December 9, 2021 No it's really not so probably not real necessary for the second plug. but is easy to do and does help for faster oil changes.
ebinmaine 67,596 #9 Posted December 9, 2021 Next transmission I take apart I'm going to try to remember to put that second plug in. I thought about measuring the angle required to get the front of the tractor high enough to drain that forward well but I've never had the memory to do it.... Snoopy11 5,714 #11 Posted December 15, 2021 Although I did not take pictures... (I know, I know, I committed a mortal sin)... my transmission looked exactly like your's Gman. HOWEVER, I did not have to change bearings as they were still in excellent, lubricated condition... surprisingly! Don
Wheelhorse#1 1,667 #12 Posted December 16, 2021 Wow..how does so much water get in there..split shifter boot ? Nice ending tho

Really the only place it can get in if everything is sealed up correctly otherwise. The water runs right down the shifter knob, shaft, right into the top of the transmission.
