Snoopy11 5,714 #1 Posted December 8, 2021 (edited) Howdy guys, I don't know if anyone noticed, but I haven't been on the forum the last couple of days. So... the day before yesterday I was out working on my newest project, and I was working underneath. One of the springs that goes to the clutch slipped off its mount, and unloaded right into my eye. It completely knocked me out for... I am not sure how long... probably a couple of minutes. When I became aware, I opened my eye, and all I saw was red. I had blood pouring out of my eye, nose, and mouth. The pain was worse than anything I have ever experienced. With the blood flowing out of my nose and mouth, I could not breath. I know from my training to stand up, so the blood stops flowing to my head. I grabbed a shop towel, and started praying in my head. Somehow, praise the Lord, the bleeding stopped after a couple of minutes of praying to myself. The doctors said that the spring hit an artery, which caused all of the bleeding. They got the pressure down in my eye. I have some cornea damage, which makes my eye light sensitive. I don't have trouble seeing this morning, it is still a bit sensitive. I do feel like I have been hit in the face with a hammer, and I look like I got in a fight with bigfoot... but other than that, I am truly blessed. Maxwell-8 4,275 #10 Posted December 8, 2021 Eyes are the most sensitive part of your body, I am also very scared of springs. That is why I like Wheel Horses they just have 2 'bigger' springs. I have gotten hurt many times before, but never felt the kind of pain like the eye. It literally felt as if someone had taken an ice-pick and jabbed me in the eye. The bottom of the glasses cut my face. Got 5 stitches. Another day the pumper truck blew a line and shot me with a high pressure stream of concrete and blew me out of my shoes. I've taken to using the full face shield much more often these days! And "Steel toed boots" Holding a 20 foot piece of 3" EMT against a wall one day whilst the 'helper' secured it with some clamps. Well... it slipped and came down square on the end of boot. Cut a perfect circle flap out of the leather. Squashed the steel a little bit. I still have my toes! TGFSTB! Don Hi Dan, good to hear your eyes are both is still in. An Ex Coworker lost because of such circumstances his left eye. You are correct, dear sir. I thoroughly agree. I will absolutely wear goggles or safety glasses from now on. What good is it to have tractors... if you can't see them... Bill D 1,916 #24 Posted December 9, 2021 I'm a big fan of safety glasses. If I lost an eye it would end my career. Springs, even small ones can be very dangerous. One of my least favorite things to work with. Years ago I was using a rotor-stripper to clean paint off a cast iron radiator. One of the times broke off and got stuck in my safety glasses. It would have taken out my eye. I still have that pair of glasses as a reminder, and I will never use a rotor-stripper again. Snoopy11 5,714 #25 Posted December 11, 2021 Hey guys, I have had some people asking, so I thought it would be a good idea to give an update. The blurriness in my left eye is gone, the double vision is gone. Really just some pain and a VERY large scar on my upper eyelid.
