20hp single cylinder Kohler K engine - What do you know?

Recommended Posts

OutdoorEnvy

So someone near me is selling a 20hp single cylinder kohler engine dirt cheap.  Looks good shape and the price would be right for a possible project and taking a risk on.  I haven't ever seen one before and didn't know they existed until I saw this one.  It came off a large generator.  Wanted to see if any of you know about these and would this be feasible to put on a Wheel Horse?

Never heard of such a thing in K or M model Kohler. Do you have the model & spec number off from the engine. Just wondering if it is actually a 16hp?

I've had a run in with the newer aluminum block 20hp, single cylinder, Kohler. That engine ain't worth it's weight in scrap. :handgestures-thumbdown: Thin wall block prone to cracking, oil leaks out, rod breaks, then you have an extra vent hole in the block.

I hadn't heard of one either...

Overhead valve? Could it be an 18 horse?

Definitely going to want to get some numbers from the tag off of that engine.

K series went to 18hp K361

M singles went to 16hp M16

Commands went to 18hp vertical and 16hp horizontal.

Twins came in at 18hp.

Its either not 20hp or its not a single.

Hey i bought a K3500 dually Sierra that a guy owned for 7 years and never knew it was 4x4 until i showed him...

Must be quite a big engine.

I know Lombardini  made 20hp single cylinder air-cooled diesels, but never heard of a Kohler.

Guess they didn't make too many K361.  Only 12 spec numbers and no parts listings at the Kohler site....

Yes.. and plagued with head issues, if they didnt blow the head gasket they dropped a valve seat, iron K series block modified to accept external push rog tubes and accept an aluminum ohv head.
