Recommended Posts

I have this 73 14hp auto I’m working on.I’m trying to short things out.

My question. Is there a spring that is supposed to go between the shifter rod and  the support ?not sure what it’s call.

I’ve added a pic

thx

Short answer...YES.  There s/b a roll pin in the shift lever and the spring is on that. This design set-up is prone to lots of wear and was changed in 1974 C series.

ps...I had a 12hp Auto the exact same betwee-legs fwd/rev lever and I swapped it out to make the control lever located on the right side of the tractor.  This is a C-160 auto with lever conversion.  I have the parts to do this, if you want... There is some tear-down needed, but not bad.  Sure is lots easier to use with fwd/rev lever off to the side instead of between your knees.

Thanks. This is Very helpful.I have a repair manual but it’s blurry.

I’d be interested in the shift lever that would be a nice improvement to where the  shifter is now, it’s very tight space and awkward to shift. That’s the one thing I don’t  like about this particular model.

This would be a great improvement .

Thanks again

Here's a pic of my 73 auto, it has a small shift pattern. The spring is there.

Thanks

What holds that spring in place, possibly a short roll pin ?

I'll look in morning, but I think it just loose, top plate holds shifter from moving to far.

Sorry late to the party. Spring is loose, top plate stops shifter from moving to far
