Tuneup 1,433 #29 Posted December 8, 2021 Back to the original concern - I was going to convert my gen to the yard propane tank and found that those aftermarket regulators are adjustable so is that old one adjustable? Probably fixed jet... Also, my cook tank/turkey cooker/garage heater tank is a 20 pounder. It holds about 20 lbs of gas in a 16 lb tank. If I remember correctly, it's the equivalent of 4 - 5 gallons of gasoline in BTU so the old WH would run forever... I really do have to entertain this alternate fuel for the gen approach. My prepper side demands it. 2

clueless 3,005 #34 Posted December 10, 2021 LP does not burn as hot as gas so you use a little more, a 20# tank holds 4.2 gals of propane. Contact these folks uscarburetionwww.com. they can help you with your regulator questions. They were very helpful a couple of years ago when I converted two 10hp tecumseh generators to gas or LP. Like I said it's been a couple years and things change fast now especially customer service . As a side note when you exchange your 20# grill tank at the local box, grocery, or convenient store you are only getting 15# or a little over 3 gals of gas. Divide that into what ever you pay for it and you'll find you paid over two times what propane cost, I know convenience is nice but not every time. Down here we do a lot of grilling, fish and chicken frying and seafood boils all year round, I keep one tank full at at all times and when the other's empty I take it to my propane dealer and have it filled. Ain't nothing worse than having a couple hundred dollars worth of shrimp, crabs and crawfish in mid boil and you run out of propane.

Putting the empty and "filled" tanks on your bathroom scale will tell you how much gas you got. @clueless is so right about the "lean" fills at the exchange places. We take ours to a dealer and their machine fills by weight so we pay for what we get.

But I do think that the chart I seen showed that LP had more BTU's than NG

Got one strapped to my Bi fuel, gas/ lp portable generator, run it about 10 minutes every other month keeps the battery charged. Got one strapped on a small hand dolly with a 150,000 BTU torch, need to start a burn pile or kill some weeds just fire it up. Also I'm sure many here know a portable propane tanks has a 12 year shelf life, the manufacture production date is stamped on the collar of the tank, just remember that when buying used tanks. Down here it cost $27.00 to recertify one for 5 years and not all pass.

I don't think anyone would fault you for having none even! But the 'club' thing seems to have fallen by the wayside. Used to be that the club 'badge' showed up when you made a post and that seems to have stopped for some reason. And now it's been so dang long ago that I just don't remember what one has to do to join! Ya know what? I don't even see the 'blackhood club' listed! Where did you see that? All I see is "Modifieds' and "520" , no others? Edited December 17, 2021 by Jeff-C175
