She has a class called Odyssey of the Mind. It doesn’t allow parents to help with design, build or testing. We are allowed to teach technique, safety, process, etc… but NO WORK can be done by ANYONE BUT HER on the project. Currently she’s working on a self propelled car. She’s playing with hydro power. Water falls through a holding tank into essentially a water wheel hooked to an axle. Eventually it’ll need to transport an item across a floor, over obstacles, etc. 4

If they fit maybe they'll be tight enough that you won't need glue. Maybe you can saw notches in the pipe to locate the dividers. You would use the thinwall stuff for this? I figured on using schedule 40 PVC because that's what I can get with easy access around here. These dividers might just be the ticket.

I bet with a heat gun you could put 'dimples' into the pipe to hold the dividers in place. 11 minutes ago, ebinmaine said: might just be the ticket Make sure to check the OD though! You might have to cut the little lip off to get them to slide into place. You could hang them with these: Edited December 2, 2021 by Jeff-C175

I thought about trying to find some thin wall PVC the other day but then my mind wandered off on shiny things or something..... I haven't taken a lot of time to look yet. At the two major box store companies here in my local area the thin wall PVC is actually more expensive by a dollar or two per stick. I put a call to my favorite small town hardware store and I'll see what they come up with. Like that idea on the plastic dividers quite a lot. If I needed to notch those lips I could just set each one of them on the bandsaw and snip into it around 6 or 8 places or whatever.
wallfish 17,084 #65 Posted December 2, 2021 I got all the 3" PVC schedule 40 pipe pieces you can handle! Plus the wood circles from drilling the rim joists for pipe to pass through. PVC pipe more than doubled in cost over the last 3 months or so. What's strange is the fittings didn't

Place I normally buy from used to get about $19 for a schedule 40 10 ft 4-in piece. Now he's up to $46!!!

ranger 1,760 #72 Posted January 11, 2022 For nut & bolt racks, how about putting up lengths of rainwater guttering along the wall with semi-circular pieces of wood or whatever for partitions. That way, the individual compartments can be whatever size/length you need! Easy to write the size/description in front of each compartment, and easy to extract what you want with very little obstruction, (whatever size hands you have), even if you have to reach above your head, and can’t see what’s inside because the description is written on the curved outer surface of the gutter which means it slopes slightly downwards, making it easier to read looking up. You can position ‘runs’ of guttering higher up closer to the eaves/ceiling in the shop, thus saving wall space lower down! Doug.🇬🇧
