Cast rods will definitely bend...pulled one out of an L31 5.7...guy blew a head gasket..water doesn't compress but the engine started.  Skirt was hitting the crank counterweight.

 

But yeah they'll kink right up.

I revert back to the context of the conversation, and the forum. I am entirely discussing small engine rods.

Well I don’t plan on having any rod problems like that but I don’t plan no having anymore with this engine at least. I’m going to order parts so I can start reassembling. Cylinder is honed, gasket surfaces are clean, valve seats are in good shape, crank bearings are good to go and valve guides are tight. I’ve been working on it a little here and a little there. Always a million things to do in a day but there’s no hurry.

I have access to a bead blaster at work but the head is the only thing I would blast. It’s turned out very clean by a long bristle wire brush in between the fins and parts washer.

Here you go. I don’t remember where and when I got it but it has 2 inch long bristles. Nice for getting in between the cooling fins on the head.

I just finished putting back together a Kawasaki... (I'm on break until Spring/Summer... as it will take me that long to clean the greasy gunk out from under my fingernails...) 

 

You... will make a video once you get it done... won't you???

If all goes well, I will. The only Kawasaki I ever rebuilt was an FE290 in a Club Car golf cart. It turned out good and ran like new.

Mine is an FC420V... and it was... challenging... but purrrrrrrs now. 

 

I modified it a little, (won't go into too much detail and hijack this thread)... but as with every other engine I have built... it is done right.

 

Speaking of that... you plan on using molly-lube for assembly?

Molly-lube (assembly lube) is excellent for break-in....

 

Your local parts store would carry it!

This is going slow not because of lack of enthusiasm believe me. Since I’m off for the time being, I’m finding some time to keep moving forward. I am going to put in new valves and see what else I can do for today.

Was just going to post that. Saw that shadow and thought that may be it.

I installed the new valves, took apart the valve cover and cleaned it in the parts washer, chased the head bolt holes with a tap, cleaned head bolts on the wire wheel and organized for the next steps. Set the head and gasket down , little oil on the head bolt threads and ran them down. Not going to torque them today. It’s coming along nicely.
