I never liked that carb...it was the one regret i had, i should have built a megasquirt EFI system or used a bigger flatslide off a bike.

I never thought about a megasquirt. :eusa-think:

However, I have a gravity system on HellHorse, so I really haven't ever had an issue. I like not having a fuel pump... one less thing to go bad...

@Snoopy11  without starting a war , been using https://www.amazon.com/Rislone-4405-Supplement-Concentrate-Treatment/dp/B0075559UY/ref=a81214&psc=1 , in my small engines , go on site, look up back of bottle for applications , significant engine ease of operation improvement. use this with rotella 30 wt , castrol oil over winter , think its a very good engine cleaner too. oils last longer , and run without effort. lots of hours on all my engines now , just my own experience,  that amazon price is very good , for me it includes free shipping , pete

Yes sir. I use the Lucas ZDDP additive. It is a must for my high horsepower and high rpm engines. I try to use Mobil-1 oil which has some ZDDP in it, as well as Royal Purple Racing formula, which has high ZDDP additives.

I don't think oil conversations should necessarily mean "war" ...I really like exchanging ideas.

Here is what I use! https://www.amazon.com/Lucas-Oil-LUC10063-Ounce-Engine/dp/B001DKN8ZU/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=lucas+zinc&qid=1639511890&s=automotive&sr=1-2

I have to use the Lucas ZDDP formula in my crate engine in my truck. I began using it then, and have used it in every racing engine I have built so far. I find no cam lobe or follower wear with this additive. I also believe that it helps with rod journal wear... but I think ZDDP is mostly to help stop cam lobe and follower wear.

@Snoopy11 , yes since using it in all my small engines , they have taken on an ease of running that they just simply did not have before , my stand by generator with a 3600 rpm run range , just cruises along , definitely  easier and smoother than before.  combine that ease of run with a 2 spring pull  on your throttle cable arm , one spring assists speed up the other slow down ,  makes the cable work much easier . pete

After my last post on page 2, you guys lost me. I’m pretty good on engines but yeah, you lost me.

No worries on my end.  I was waiting for you two to start talking about the metallurgy processes in connecting rods next😀. I am impressed what can be done with a single cylinder engine. Now I know who to ask for performance advice.

That's for sure! I think, between @RED-Z06 and I, we could keep talking performance all day and night... :ychain:

Billet is heavy but its stronger, powdered metal is also quite strong but...can you trust the process?  Bearing inserts should be standard on small engines.

If I take a cast rod, hit it with a hammer, I could break it.

If I take a billet rod, hit it with a hammer, I MIGHT be able to bend it slightly... but it won't break.

Yeah but they'll both bend if you give em the kill tune or blow a head gasket and suck in waterm

Wow, I have never seen a cast rod bend. I have to admit, that is very interesting to me.

I am going to have to think about that one. Maybe due to super-heating of the rod...?

The top one in the pictures sure isn't.

I did think the same thing about the bottom rod in the pictures... but my eyes could be playing tricks... :dunno:

I'll put it this way, that bottom rod in the pictures does not mimic cast rods that I have replaced/removed. :teasing-poke:

Friend of mine has an engine shop builds a lot of circle track engines. Have seen quite a few laying around looking

like that. Have seen some like the bottom one but can't recall who makes them though.

It is an steel turbo H-beam rod.

More research... both rods are 4340 steel H-beam. The bottom photo's difference is just a photo mirage.

Those are used in automotive supercharging and turbo engines. Not available for small engine use.

Back to basics... cast rods break. Billet aluminum bends... just not "easily" ...but won't break.

He uses a lot of Callies rods that look a lot like that.
