Jon925mn 39 #78 Posted December 9, 2021 Reading about the balance gears has me nervous about my new to me K321 on my C-145. This engine makes way more racket than my 10hp on my 310. Granted it floats vs frame bolted but it still sounds loud to me. I was just planning on blowing snow this winter and then read about this issue. Now the noises seem more noticeable because I'm listening for doom. Does anyone have video of what bad gears sound like?

Bit of a chore driving the pins but it worked great. I did end up causing a mushroom end on the second one so I had to slice off the end with help from a Dremel. Don't care. It works fine the way it is. The shafts only need to be driven back in to prevent oil escaping. 1
oliver2-44 9,764 #80 Posted January 2, 2023 Driving the pins seems like a lot of extra work. The gears split so easy with a cold chisel.

I tried the split with the chisel I had available. Fail. I do however have a VERY nice set of long straight round Starrett punches. More work? Yes. Got it done though...

I went with the pins because I wasn't sure if I could find all the fragments and needle bearings if I used a chisel. My vision up close is not what it used to be. Whatever method works for you, works for me! Edited January 3, 2023 by kpinnc 1
