Maxwell-8 4,275 #1 Posted November 26, 2021 Currently working on my C141D. Taking loose one thing resulted in taking off the next thing. and before you know, you are halfway in to a full blown restauration. Here are some things I found apart from bad wheelbearings, leaking seals, etc as I dug deeper in this chassis. Good thing I went over it. Could have lost my clutch and brakes!! 4

Sparky-(Admin) 21,317 #4 Posted November 26, 2021 Been there myself…just want to “fix” one thing and before I know it it’s half way disassembled on my garage. But you end up with a better machine in the end as you are finding out. 3 2

But technically she will be a lot better!
Achto 27,571 #6 Posted November 26, 2021 Some times tearing them apart and putting them back together is the best way to go. 5
Pullstart 62,870 #7 Posted November 27, 2021 Hey, I’ve been doing that trick on Christmas morning for 30 years or more. Nothing wrong with that! Just don’t plug your DC remote control cars in the wall socket for too long! They get warm! 1

Only thing I can say to make you feel better is that by fixing the little things, you give this machine another 40 years. Imagine these little things adding up on any other machine: would it still be working? Most restorations start like your repair. At some point, you have to face the "well, it's torn down this far already. Do I go ahead and permanently fix it?" Maxwell-8 4,275 #12 Posted November 28, 2021 Found another concerning thing. Should there be a C-clip on the axle pivot point? Looks like it was once torn apart, and the fastly put back together...
pfrederi 17,739 #13 Posted November 28, 2021 Yes there was one but as long as the tab on the rear of the pin is ok and bolted in the snap ring isn't needed 1
