Maxwell-8 4,277 #1 Posted November 26, 2021 I am in the search of some new shoes on my C141D. I don't know which direction to go. Since AG's have doubled in price the past year (this is no joke! seriously doubled, because I wrote the price down) These USA made atv tires are equally expensive. I plan on doing mainly work in muddy terrain, like in our forest. the higher the bars, the more traction? They are 6ply, but heard they are more flexible then a AG. so comparable to a 4ply. Which most AG's are. What would you choose? ITP Mudlite USA made I have had those ITP's, but sold them again before I got a chance to mount them. The cheapest AG's I could find: DURO HF-
ebinmaine 67,596 #2 Posted November 26, 2021 I'd go with the traditional tractor tire. TBH. I like the LOOK Better. I'm not sure if a 6 mph machine is going to get better traction with one or the other.

Pullstart 62,906 #4 Posted November 26, 2021 Maxwell check out my “Steve” build. It was a C-81. I had some old bald ate tires and was quite impressed with it’s ability to move through sloppy mud!
pacer 3,173 #5 Posted November 26, 2021 Dang! here I have 2 NEW ags been listed for couple months on CL with a practically 'give away' $125 price and cant get a nibble..... But, I have to say I am liking the ATV type tires more and more. Picked up two 8 inchers at the scrap yard off a scrapped ATV and I liked them. 2
Lee1977 6,666 #6 Posted November 26, 2021 I like my All Trails II good traction on every thing I have tried them on. On looks they are way down as there are a lot of better looking tires. I use mine back in the woods but avoid mud when I can as I keep my tractors in the basement. I put them on in 2015 and we haven't got any big snows only around 4" so can't say how they do in deep snow. 2

Snoopy11 5,714 #8 Posted November 26, 2021 (edited) @ebinmaine... I am deeply hurt that you did not add me to this discussion. You know that I have ATV tires and AG Lug tires... Here is what I know. With my AG lug tires... I feel like I can literally pull a ton without losing traction. The tires that I am referring to look like this: I also have some ATV tires... that look like this: Now, I like the ATV tires... don't misunderstand me here. BUT, whereas my lug tires... never lose traction in the first place, the ATV tires leave large indentions in soft ground... and do spin in muddy terrain. You have to be much more careful with the ATV tires, not spinning the tires... which REALLY tears up the ground. However, I never actually lose traction with my lug tires, so I don't have to worry about tearing up the ground. I have never gotten stuck with either tire. I am less experienced with the ATV tires, but I have gotten enough seat time to know which tire is better. For a tractor, I would go AG lug tires all the way, as Eric has said. I would never choose to put ATV tires on a Wheel Horse. (and I would agree with Eric, they will be ugly... compared to AG lug tires). For a riding mower, or similar, I would go with ATV tires any day. The AG LUG tires ride less rough on concrete... while the ATV tires are pretty rough-riding on concrete. THEREFORE, with the terrain that you are going to be working... I think those are pretty nice... very unique, and will serve your purpose very well. I like those ITP tires VERY much... I like them better than my own atv tires... Don

Cause we do have quite some concrete as well. A drive to the forest is 20min driving over concrete. Are 4ply AG's harder then a 6ply ATV? So an AG would be better on machines with low wheel speed, a ATV tire, will be better If you can make wheelspeed? like 30-40mph Edited November 26, 2021 by Maxwell-8

My ATV tires are 6 ply... The ATV tires are pretty... rugged. They are not very flexible... at all. Whereas, the AG lug tires are flexible... to a certain extent. ATV tires are indeed made for high speed. That isn't to say that they can't be used. BUT, with those ITP tires... you are going to have a darn rough ride on concrete. Snoopy11 5,714 #15 Posted November 26, 2021 Sorry buddy... not trying to confuse you. I meant to say that The AG LUG tires ride less rough on concrete... while the ATV tires are pretty rough-riding on concrete. 6 ply ATV tire is very... hard. There is nothing soft about it. 4 ply AG lug tires have a little more "give" and will definitely be a lot smoother on concrete. Don
Snoopy11 5,714 #16 Posted November 26, 2021 3 minutes ago, Maxwell-8 said: But if they were both 6ply, tha AG's would be harder? That depends on the tire pattern. If you look at the ATV tires that I have posted above... they wouldn't be very rough on concrete. Whereas, the pattern of the ATV tires that you have posted is going to be VERY rough on concrete. Don
Snoopy11 5,714 #17 Posted November 26, 2021 Simply put, AG tires are designed for concrete, rock, dirt, mud, snow, etc. ATV tires are designed more or less for off-road. Don
Snoopy11 5,714 #18 Posted November 26, 2021 More thoughts... ATV tires have dense treads. The more dense the tread, the more smoothly it will ride on concrete, while maintaining its lugging ability in mud. Dense tread pattern distributes weight and maximizes contact between tire and pavement for better maneuverability on concrete. Rough riding tires on concrete are not just bad for your comfort... but they aren't good for the tractor either. In my opinion, lots of riding on concrete with ATV tires, such as the ITP tires that you have posted above, will cause a good amount of wear on the ATV tires as well, which is another point worth noting. Don
Snoopy11 5,714 #19 Posted November 26, 2021 (edited) AG lug tires have dense thread. They will cut into mud, but maintain a circular geometry on concrete. ATV tires have more of a razor tread for grabbing, slicing, cutting into the mud. As logic would have it... Rubber tires can't grab, slice, or cut into concrete... thus why they ride rough on concrete. Don Edited November 26, 2021 by Snoopy11
Maxwell-8 4,277 #20 Posted November 26, 2021 The lug height of those ITP's is 34 /32. How much is it on a AG?
