Wheel weight bolts

Recommended Posts

I am picking up a pair of the Plastic WH weights on Saturday. They do not come with the 4 bolts. What size and length do I need?

Thank you.

They will be 1/2" carriage bolts. Not sure what the length is. Best to set them in the rim and measure for length.

Yup. Length depends on the dish of the wheel.

Okay, stupid question time. So are carriage bolts correct to use inserting them from behind the wheels through to the outside then a flat washer and nut leaving an exposed thread on the outside? Out of all the weights I have ever used I always had to supply my own hardware. Seems I may have been doing it wrong since 1989  by installing the flat washer on the outside with nut and lock washer on the inside with a regular bolt.  :confusion-confused: @squonk  &  @Achto    Length does vary a bit.

Stock WH  cast weights have the square  hole so the bolts on those go in from. . the out side. I believe the plastic ones have found holes so the bolts go in from the backside.

The weights on my C-175 have 8.5" bolts.  I don't have carriage bolts (yet), so I do need to get a wrench/socket on both ends when tightening.  This is a good reminder that I should pick some up.

Make sure, that if you use the carriage bolts with the heads in the wheels, chop off the excess length once you get the nuts on the outside!  Your shins will thank you, ask me how I know!

As mentioned, length depends on rim width and dish.

I added 2 flats to the carriage bolt heads so I could reverse them from what is shown and still grab them with locking pliers from the outside, nylock nuts on the inside.

Gouged up the bottom of a few house shingles having them mounted as shown.

I just use adjustable length bolts. LoL

Perfect fit every time for every weight or rim combo possible

All thread is cheap, available and has many uses
