Have you gotten into disassembling the transmission to see what broke the axle? Also, what other parts are broken or worn out?

Lowell at Wheel Horse Parts and More will be able to supply you with any needed bearings, seals, case gasket.

Those axles are not known for breaking so it would be good to figure out exactly why it happened and what's broken around it..

Model number would be important.    If it is a 10 hp 1973 no name it may have a Hydro gear or piston to piston.  Looks like they each used 2 5961 axles (1" 4 pinion)

Looks like WH went cheap with  the 10hp in 1972...The Charger 10 then also uses the 1" axle 5961...  Earlier Charger 10s had 1-1/8 and 10 pinion...

After draining the fluid you will need to remove the pump/motor assembly as a unit. There are six bolts, two top ones go all the way through the transaxle case. Once this is done you can lift it up a bit and secure it to the steering wheel. Next you can disconnect linkage and the four bolts that hold the transaxle to the frame. A few more bolts and you will be inside.

Lowell at https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com can fix you up with the gaskets and seals.

If it is the 5961 axle you are somewhat in luck.  it was used in 300 series 8 speeds  with 1" axles...

I have detailed overhaul manuals for the Sundstrand automatic tractors.  One manual covers the 90-2046 Hydrogear and the other manual is for the Sundstrand Piston-to-Piston models such as 90-1136, 90-1140 etc.

Here are both manuals that I prepared in .pdf format

Dave, you can submit files.

Top left, under the WH logo there's a "Browse". Hover on that for the drop down and click manuals. On the right you should see a list of the categories so click on "Automatic / Hydro" under Transmission, then "Submit a File"

Think that should do it. You made them so take the credit for the work done and live forever on RS as it typically shows who presented them on here. (If I do it for you it will display -- by wallfish)

Does an earlier Sunstrand with 1-1/8” axles direct swap?

I'm interested in learning... how it broke?

If it broke at all... for whatever reason, what's to stop it from breaking again in the future? :confusion-confused:

Not at all trying to be rude, here me there, but just a sincere question...

See my post.

These axles are some kinda rugged...

One would want to find the root cause for sure.

It's hard to believe they broke. This maybe the strongest part on a almost bulletproof tractor. those axles can support up to 50hp with ease

Happens a lot.

My favorite are the ones that get it fixed and don't tell you what they found.

If you're asking about swapping the whole tranny, then yes.
