71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted November 22, 2021 Was just wondering if something like this is possible. For instance, if you had a pull-start motor with no previsions for external power (like lights). Add some kind of generator driven by the output of the engine to generate power for lights. Kind of like a starter-generator does, but not have the ability to act as a starter. Just the ability to out-put power to lights or other electrical accessories. Maybe utilize some kind of small automotive alternator? With some form of regulator for the output? pfrederi 17,741 #2 Posted November 22, 2021 You could use a Delco 10SI but it would have to feed a battery...

Maxwell-8 4,277 #4 Posted November 22, 2021 Maybe a ATV style alternator. Problem would be getting it to spin the correct way.
Achto 27,609 #5 Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) I have a trailer brake battery in one of my pull start only tractors. I can run 2 LED headlights and a LED tail light for about 8 to 9hrs before I have to recharge the battery. May be a route for you to consider. Maxwell-8 4,277 #6 Posted November 22, 2021 here is a video of an installation. car type alternators have to turn in the correct direction for the coolingfan to work.

Sorry I've been away for a bit and just saw this thread! I used a golf cart starter generator (SG) because most I found can be set up to run clockwise or counter clockwise. I am using mine on a Predator 212cc engine and it works well enough with a mechanical voltage regulator. I have a thread and some pics of my 656 on this forum. Another option I contemplated was installing just a generator- I have one from an old Ford tractor. Those are cheaper than a SG. Setup would probably be similar. I have a small motorcycle battery (maybe 7 ah) on the 656 but the SG puts out enough amps that I can run my 1.8 gpm sprayer all day. It pulls about 5 amps at my pressure setting. I think my SG maxes out at 15-20 amps so it's plenty of power.
