C145 Steering Wheel Repair

Looking for ideas on how to repair the crack.  I was thinking JB Weld or 2 part epoxy after I open up the crack a little more to make room for what ever I use.  Open to ideas

Does it flex and move when you pull on the steering wheel?

Certainly something to consider when choosing the appropriate repair chemical.

 

I was reminded of another product this past weekend called 3M Structural Adhesive. 

 

I don't know if it would fit your needs so check into it.

Didn’t check for that.  I will check into the 3M product. They make good adhesive

That looks way too familiar. The crack will only get worse, then the wheel will fail as it seperates from the metal hex hub.

Randy L posted a thread on November 10th titled Bent Steering Wheel. I posted what happened to the wheel on the C81 while plowing and my permanent fix.

If the crack is not fixed water will get to the steel insert in the wheel and cause it to rust. The rust will gradually separate the wheel from the plastic. 

I've used JB Weld and PC7 for steering wheel repair.  In my case I liked the PC7 as it was a little thicker and did not run on a curved surface.  I put tape on each side of my repair areas to minimize extra cleanup.  While it's hard to sand, it worked down good with a file.   I filed it close to desired surface level and then finish sanded it smooth.  Spray some black enamel gloss spray paint into the mixed epoxy to turn it black.  It will help hide the repair.

I have repaired a few things with JB Weld Plastic Weld and it has worked well on them. I repaired my Nissan trucks radiator filler neck and it has help up great. The plastic weld that I have used dries a glossy black.
