Just couldn't leave well enough alone!

Just replacing tie rods on my 417A and took apart steering to see about taking ALL play out of it. And then I broke it. It's my fault for not taking my time.

Sad part is, I gave away a spare block (that I just broke) and the rod with the gear teeth on it.

In the plus side, I have a new neighbor that has 2 wheelhorses! 310-8 and 314h.  He's going to borrow my 2 stage this winter while I use my 416 single tall chute and this 417 with 48" plow.

Maybe someone has a gear reduction set up I could install while I'm at it?!

Can that be done? How hard?

@Maxwell-8, no. I took it apart and had to pry it off while on tractor and it broke. it was a big pry bar..

I was looking at tightening the steering

Handy Don

Reduction is new steering shaft, midd-gear, and block for sure. I think a different length front shaft with fan gear, too.

I might have the regular block on a parts tractor. I'll look tomorrow.

Regular block would be easiest.  Thanks!

I see there is a little bushing on the end of the shaft.  Wonder if those are available...

@Cee245  if you have to weld that cast iron its most important to preheat it , that will make for a good weld , but think you should be able to find that block on this site or on line , good chassis grease in that , pete
