Here's what I remember of the details of that car:
Front suspension: Stock control arms, upgraded bushings, springs and shocks, deleted anti-sway bar, stock manual steering (Who needs it anyway!).
Rear suspension: Narrowed 12 bolt with Strange axles, don't recall the pumpkin guts, 4 link with narrowed frame rails. My brother was ballsy enough to cut the back end of the frame off a perfectly functional '67 and weld everything up himself.

Full 12 point roll cage with welded frame connecters etc. 
Custom fab rear wheel wells.

BB Chevy 454, stock heads, full roller, but worked extensively internally. I believe around 800HP.

Dual rear batteries with 5 gal fuel cell.
All extraneous parts removed, interior, front fender wells, wire harnesses etc.

I believe his best run was 10.2 at 136. I remember the day because tech tracked him down and said, "Son, you're getting close to the 9's. We needa have another look-see at your car."

They passed him for 9's, whatever that bracket is, I forget "For today. But next time, come back with this, this and this...". 

He did nearly all of it himself.

 

The only thing he had help with was the motor from a friend of his who was a notorious engine builder. Notorious in a good way.

For fun, he used to build "rubber band motors. Wind em up once, they go like snot and explode!"  A build way beyond the limits of the engine just to see how much power it would make. lol

Here's my brothers' '66 ragtop. He bought her when I was 14, and sold me his '72 Chevelle.

I hate him for this car. You will too. She is such a beaut!

My favorite Chevelle is a '66 which is a near tie with a '70 LS6 454.

 My first job in the auto body business was with a GMC truck dealer.  Sometimes when  we gave a quick makeover on a trade in the boss would say just use bucket paint. Meaning take leftover paint and mix it in a bucket.  Got some strange colors from that.

 I loved playing around with different tints/metallics to make colors. It's a funny thing to get used to when the brightest white you've ever painted (I think it was Corvette Arctic White), the formula was white base, chrome yellow, hunter green and black. HUH?!?! WTF!?!?

Sometimes we'd take a pizza box (There were plenty around the shop) and cut scallops in the end, hold them up to the surface and mist a contrasting color. Result was ghost fish scales. 

I've got to find the pics of my '72. The only ones I have were really bad lighting taken on the day I sold her. One of the best paint jobs we ever did.

In the 90s I sold DuPont paint. 

Centari acrylic enamel single stage formula for that white was 1 full gallon of bright white base and a few DROPS of bright blue.

Hey now, I'm pretty sure we used Centari now and again. Wasn't that one of the few enamels you could get away with painting without a booth? I remember we also used Miracryl a few times. That one went on like butter, but you couldn't touch it up. We painted my '72 Chevelle using that in white. Looked amazing, but one bad spot couldn't be fixed. Sand it down and spray again and it wouldn't blend. Does any of that make sense to you? My gray matter is a bit gray these days. lol

  Yes the 60's and 70's drag cars had some insane paint jobs  Scallops, panel paint, doilies all kinds of cool stuff.

  We called that blue toned white it was the stock GM truck white forever  Have to add never was a big fan of Centari but we didn't use the hardener just reducer. To show my age I learned with Dulux the slowest drying paint in the world.  Get it right awesome a little to much you had runs.   The boss loved Imrom and we used the right corlar epoxy sealer when using it, That was as good as the modern paints we use now

He's an AC guy by trade (among many other things) so yeah, bending up some tubs he could do in his sleep. I'd be f'in around with snips for weeks.

 We got a little thread drift there with paint.

I did spent several weekends at New England Dragway in the early 70's, My room mate in 1974 bought a real 69 Yenco Camaro for $1500.00  who knew what these would bring?  I bought his 70 GTO for $900.00 to help him come up with money.  The Yenco ended up having a bad motor as it was raced to death.  He put a new 427 open chamber head motor right from the dealer in it and ran 11:57 at the drags.  We always trailered to the races as it was just about 100 miles to the track.  we never did break anything though

Wow, what does a real Yenko bring these days? How many zeros? A true SS Chevelle in decent condition is out of reach of most people these days.

I should've kept my fake SS 72 Malibu.

My 72. My brothers first car, and my first car. Our finest paint job. Unfortunately crappy pics. The color was home made. In low light, it was black, in medium light dark purple, in sunlight iridescent blue. Or some combination there of. I really wish I remembered how we did this, I wonder if my brother does?!?

Back in the day at Lebanon Valley, they had test and tune days on Saturday. Don't know if that's still a thing. It was bedlam, but most anyone could get in as many runs as they could fit.

There'd be gassers and rail cars and Cordoba's and Civics and Tundras and Sportsters and Ninjas and Ski-Doo's. Ugh.

It was a fun day though. Seeing that clapped-out looking 1986 Chevy C-10 sleeper run a 12.5.
