Refresh carb cleaner soak fluid?

I have a gallon-sized carb clean soak kit of the Gunk brand. I've used it quite a few times over the last few years and it's time to filter the fluid.

 

I tried using a coffee filter with some success but after less than half of the gallon of fluid has been filtered it's completely clogged. 

Also, I'm not quite satisfied with the consistency of what has gone through the filter. Still seems a bit thicker than I feel like it should be.

 

I'm looking for either filtering suggestions or possibly replacing the fluid? What fluid would you use?

if you are going to replace it, I like the Berryman's Chem Dip / Carb cleaner.

It looses potency over time anyway. Just replace it

I have had decent success filtering the heavy stuff out using 2 paint strainers at the same time.

And yes, it does loose it's cookie over time.

I’d just replace…

 

but, the filter clogging is expected… doing what they are designed to do… if reuse is desired (I would try it and see how it works filtered) then just replace filter and repeat… why not? Less toxic liquid crap to dispose of if it works… if it doesn’t work you've learned something new and can move on… if it does work you’ve learned something new and can move on…

I soak a carb and 3 hours later walk into the house. If my wife doesn't comment on the fact I was using the cleaner, I know it's time to change it.

Hard to argue that logic, ain't it?

 

Stuff I have still has an interesting scent but I recall it being stronger when I first got it.

 

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and order up the Berryman's off of the above link.

Looking at the MSDS for gunk  carb cleaner shows that the majority of the solvents are petroleum naphtha and 2-butoxyethanol. So you could add some of either of those if you want to try “diluting” (thinning the filtrate you have). I think petroleum naphtha is available at the hardware store.

At one time, Ronsonol lighter fluid contained naphtha and was an excellent cleaner for fuel systems and bearings.  Apparently they no longer produce the good stuff but you can still buy naphtha.  I still have a stash of the good lighter fluid.

I spray my carbs off with carb cleaner right over the can and let it drip/spray in there. I could be killing myself mixing chemicals but the carbs are clean and that's what's important at the time! LoL
