ronhatch 406 #1 Posted November 14, 2021 (edited) Because I was tired of feeling under the tank for the gas shut off valve on my 867, I decided to do something about it. I replaced the old valve/tank filter with a inline filter that has a 1/8" NPT on one end and a 1/4" hose barb on the other and screwed that directly into the bottom of the tank. Then I bought a 1/4 turn valve with 1/4" hose barbs and installed it on the dash tower in plain sight. Finally, i removed the questionable fuel pump, made a nice 1/8" thick aluminum cover to replace the pump and ran the new gas line directly from the new 1/4 turn valve into the carb. Now , I'm happy to say, the engine starts immediately each and everytime. PS: I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I hope this picture doesn't disappears after a few days like my other ones do. Moparfanforever 854 #2 Posted November 14, 2021 Nice looking setup !! Are you now using an electric pump??
ronhatch 406 #3 Posted November 14, 2021 (edited) No, just gravity. Nice and simple. It would probably stop running if I let the tank get down to 1/4 full, so I don't. Edited November 14, 2021 by ronhatch

ebinmaine 67,671 #6 Posted November 14, 2021 @ronhatch Nice work on that valve relocation. I e aeena couple on the '70 and newer models that were screwed in similarly but on the left side of the steering tower near the manual lift handle. 44 minutes ago, ronhatch said: PS: I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I hope this picture doesn't disappears after a few days like my other ones do @admin Any thoughts?

We leave our Kohler engine powered tractor's gas on all the time. Trina's 657 Pony has a Briggs with an updraft carb that just won't stop leaking no matter what colorful words I use. That must be shut off or it'll keep draining until the tank runs out. Really not a huge issue because we only use it a few times a year. Her Military Tribute Tractor has a Tecumseh 10 that used to have a drain in the carb bowl. In principle I like that idea but some super careful PO somehow curled/damaged the flat surface for the seal that the drain needs. I removed the drain and JB Welded it shut. She still shuts that one off every time though.

I think that all 2 piece Flow Jet's leak by design. Fought with a few of them, replaced some with a China replacement, learned to pick another battle and just let them leak and shut the gas off when not in use.
ronhatch 406 #9 Posted November 14, 2021 (edited) My 867 is my snow plow tractor that I keep in my attached garage during the winter, so gas fumes are a big no no, which is what we were getting before I made the modifications. Sorry to go off topic. So your pics are different than any others here…are you hosting/storing them somewhere like Photobucket? I can’t click on your pics and have it blow up in a new window like all other pics posted here.
