414-8 battery hold down

The 414-8 I am working on needs a battery hold down.  I was looking at the factory parts and the metal rod going across the battery seems like a bad idea.  battery could short out if it moves somehow.  Was thinking of getting the threaded hooks and adjustable plastic hold down from the auto parts store.  Anybody else come up with something similar?

Batteries have a raised plastic ridge by the terminals to prevent this.  Have several WHs with rods or a piece of steel plate never had an issue...

I used 1/4" all thread to make j- bolts and used #9 galvanized wire and made loops on the end for the j bolts. Cost <$2

I picked up the universal rods and plastic adjustible hold down.  Will post how it turns out.  Didnt notice the raised plastic on the battery terminls, good point.

Later models had a piece of angle welded to the hold down bar that held the front of the battery.  Here is some information.

I'm using this style with no issues whatsoever on two machines. Very secure.

Too many Black wires for me on the POSITIVE side of the battery....

Red or black they all work....Isn't hard to see where they go.

I use big plastic zip ties wrapped around the whole battery tray. I have a couple of those metal rods that are in good shape, but when they need replacing, a large zip tie would hold if the tractor flips over.

 

And a bag full of them is $3...

But that’s not factory… oh yeah I forgot you already have said that about all of your tractors are modified

The original thread topic was about battery hold downs… zip ties work as battery hold downs. You’re good…

Here is the setup and the parts.  All for about $9 from auto store.  The rods come with a hook on the bottom which I bent to look like "L".  Might have to trim the threaded rod some so does not hit top of hood, didn't try with hood yet.
