A trailer for Millie

Recommended Posts

ebinmaine

A few years ago our friend gave Trina an Ohio Steel trailer that her dad bought new back in 1977.

It has the round tongue which was only used for two years.

It was kind of an interesting almost Oliver Green.

Trina's been thinking about how to repaint it for quite a while but wanted to make sure it was an appropriate tribute to our friend and her father.

Well the friend is an absolute nut for anything to do with WWII.

Sooooooo....

The Paint Department decided yesterday to do a "Rough Military Tribute" theme.

Bare minimum washing and a quick repaint to maintain as much character as possible while giving it a whole new look.

It's now a light OD Green on the exterior.

Before and after pics.

Eric:

Nice looking trailer - most that age are pretty rotted and missing the tailgate. The round tube style tongue may have changed due to bending if overloaded (AKA Pullstart!!) you may wish to add a couple of diagonal braces??

Much appreciated advice ...

We won't need bracing on this particular trailer.

Trina is the only user and she only puts material in the front half unless it's firewood which is pretty light.

If you load the back half of this trailer it gets pretty tippy on the front and our terrain is just way too hilly for that type of inappropriate trailer behavior. 😀

I've got one of those - with the newer tongue and that thing is handier than .... well, its just HANDY!!

Heres a link to a mod I did to mine for increased capacity - I'm always trimming something and the limbs can quickly fill it up .... sooooo, I decided to fix that!

I like that.

Living in the forest like we do, we don't move branches with the trailers. They go into a pile to be shredded or just chucked off into the forest.

Having additional capacity like that for me would be extremely handy for moving firewood. In the past I have stood up a couple of boards on the inside and just stacked the extra would between those boards but that can be a little cumbersome.

Thats where mine goes, after some 40+ yrs Ive put a lot of 'biodegradable' material in this one location. Some day there is gonna be some rich dirt there.
