squonk 41,161 #28 Posted November 12, 2021 I've had to really "Horse Down" (no pun intended) a stainless band clamp to strip one.
Stormin 9,981 #29 Posted November 12, 2021 If you use what we call Jubilee clips. The type I think you are calling band clips, be carefull what they are made of. The cheap ones tend to be aluminum type alloy. They strip just by looking at them. Stainless are the best IMO.
1940willys 120 #30 Posted November 12, 2021 Dielectric Grease on fuel Line, that's a new one for me! I agree with the thought, always use some type of clamp on a fuel line. A leak in the fuel system no matter how small will result in disaster eventually! Weather the ignition is from the engine itself or an outside source. A good day could turn into to a bad day in a hurry. Here is a weird one, Had a welch plug leak on a double pumper secondary fuel bowl. The fact that one can't easily PULL a hose off a barbed fitting doesn't really mean much. It's kinda like those "Chinese finger cuffs" that tighten more the harder you pull. But you can PUSH them off easily. Pressure inside a fuel line would PUSH, not PULL. 1

1940willys 120 #33 Posted November 12, 2021 Squonk ya that's what I did.I used that JB Weld as I find it to be Somewhat fuel Proof. We'll see how long that repair last's? Now when YOU did that repair, did you remove the leaking welch plug and Butter up the new one and install it? I just buttered mine up on the outside of it. edgro 677 #37 Posted November 12, 2021 The squeeze clamps are for idiot proof assembly line installation. When installed on the correct size hose they work.

Lots of guys would loosen the secondary air valve spring thinking they would get more power. When they needed to tighten the spring to keep them from opening too fast and too far. peter lena 8,639 #40 Posted November 12, 2021 @1940willys that dielectric grease is in the , super lube family of products , used it for years at work ,makes vinyl and rubber products last. and makes dissimilar connections easier . used it on every insert to hose, also on the fuel check valve , installed on the vertical hose lift to the fuel pump , perfect spot for it . right along lower side of pump , about a 2" hose from pump intake to top of check valve . instant hold of fuel right there , instant starts . every thing i suggest , i use and have lots of time on it , so i know it works . pete
1940willys 120 #41 Posted November 12, 2021 I use it in Electric / ignition situations all the time. Never thought to use it in Fuel Situations?

I used to call Holley's "Flood O Matics" Had a Dodge 360 motorhome. It's Thermo-quad Carb melted. Customer bought a Holley replacement. I did not want to install it but the boss insisted. After installation I drove it down the interstate with the engine cover off so I could keep my eye on it. Sure enough, Gas started pouring out all over the engine!

peter lena 8,639 #46 Posted November 12, 2021 @Sparky got the line from CUTTING PRO, INC , on line , if you get some, get the matching spring clamps , btw , also installed a fuel check valve on that new line , perfect spot is the rising fuel line to the fuel pump input , cut about a 2 " line down from the pump to the check valve , that way the valve sits vertically and works like it should , always a standing fuel delivery for a quick start . it starts so fast its just a good set up . just got in a new ignition switch wire harness , going in tomorrow . let me know how you make out , pete

I had a Quadrajet working so good on my 442 W30 that someone stole it at the dealership while it was there for service. The insurance paid for a new one, but I couldn't quite make it work as well as the one the thief had. It is a fine line adjusting a Quadrajet for drag racing.

Ya see I had to remove the fuel hose from the carb on the C160 Auto and I thought to myself.... I youghtta see how the line is massaged off from the top instead of just bull strength pulled down. I stuck the pick inside the line on the carb barbed fitting. Pulled down with gentle pressure at several different points around the barb. Well now. Dat 💩 were VERY easy to pull off from the outside edges!! @squonk meister I gotta give ya credit. USE CLAMPS. I ordered a bunch off the interwebs for stock. I'll be adding them to all our machines. 2
