peter lena 8,639 #1 Posted November 11, 2021 just did replacement fuel rated vinyl gas line in my horse , replaced the existing one , because it was never fuel rated , never had any issues . bottom line , my carb bowl was spotless , use 2 gas filters , one close to tank , another close to carb . from what i have seen of fuel bowl debris , is the break down of the rubber hose , and dirty tanks . only add STA-BIL to my gas , no issues . from what i have checked on my 3 horses , there is no dirt or debris in my fuel bowls , and they run like they should . my new fuel line is rated for gasoline , and its clear , also used dielectric grease on my fuel filter slide in to hose , much easier , squeeze type clamps , no leaks . used cable wrap to protect the hose , and routed thru hang loops . also added a fuel line check valve close to carb , in a vertical position . just my own experience , but when i see a picture of a dirty carb bowl , it does not have to stay that way . pete 3
Sparky-(Admin) 21,345 #2 Posted November 11, 2021 Where did you buy the fuel line? I purchased some semi-clear line from NAPA but it’s outside diameter is smaller than the old school black rubber line and my squeeze clamps don’t “clamp it”.

See my later post... I use Sten's blue clear hose. @peter lena Can you snap a pic of the fuel filter and check valve near the carb? Edited November 19, 2021 by ebinmaine Correct info. Have you ever tried to pull a hose off from a good barb fitting? Most times I have to slit the hose to get it off. With this knowledge I have come to the conclusion that a spring/squeeze clamp is more than enough to hold the fuel line on and have never had an issue. Plus they look a little cleaner to me than a screw type clamp. Edited November 11, 2021 by Achto

squonk 41,161 #7 Posted November 11, 2021 (edited) I hate futzing with those spring clamps. No way I would not use a clamp on a fuel line. Edited November 11, 2021 by squonk 1

I did try to get some itty-bitty clamps and have had very poor luck. This Sten's line is so tight on the barbs one has to really force it. With the 1 to 3 lbs of pressure or less we're at it just isn't going anywhere even with no holding assistance.
pfrederi 17,741 #10 Posted November 11, 2021 You have to be careful some of the inexpensive filters and shut off valves sold on ebay are really metric 6mm and 1/4" line will be a loose fit....6mm = 0.23622047244

peter lena 8,639 #15 Posted November 12, 2021 @roadapples got it back , got the fuel line on line at a mower site . like 10 ft for 6$ , 1/4" ID . also got the matching very small spring clips . agree with the very tight fit , slide on clip first , dielectric grease the gas filter entry / exit , actually goes on pretty easy . squeeze clamp on .referring to problem when i went to @ a member there was a solid horizontal line coming out of it , spoiling the reply. agree with the tight fitting hose to filter fit . also did my generator and snow blower , been on a tear , only 1 horse left to convert , maybe this week end . pete

peter lena 8,639 #19 Posted November 12, 2021 @ebinmaine think it was internet related , automatically went on a clean up , and its gone , went to CUTTING PRO INC , for that hose and matching spring clamps, lineman's plyers are best for those clamps , strong flat / square , give you a secure grab. pete

johnnymag3 2,520 #21 Posted November 12, 2021 I like to use whatever is there when Wheel Horse put it together. As mentioned...there is literally no pressure, so why worry? They make metric and standard spring clamps if you go a different route with hose type....Or you can use the screw clamp...like a metric/adjustable crescent wrench....One size fits all or nothing... john
squonk 41,161 #22 Posted November 12, 2021 (edited) About 20 yrs. ago I was working at Napa. In about the span of 2 months 2 major accounts had their shops burn to the ground. Why ? Because a fuel line clamp was removed and gravity took over and fuel started dripping. One shop a water heater kicked on 2 rooms away. The other was the fumes and a hot drop light. Last year another shop burned up (just re-opened) from gas dripping. Last month another one went up but it may be electrical related. I don't care how low a pressure these things run at. Clamp it. peter lena 8,639 #24 Posted November 12, 2021 @ebinmaine while screw clamps are ok with a bigger size , they just don't work well in the smallest sizes . take a small piece of the fuel hose with you to the local h/w store and match up what you need , again a wider flat jaw plyer is best for those spring clamps .had my own problems with small clamps , you can't get rough with them . slow and steady on installation , pete
