I think my gaskets on my Kohler 16 for that job is thicker than this one shown-----If I was going to use this one I would use at least 2--IMHO

Interesting.  Seems Kohler may have used different carb to block gaskets over time.  Some i have are almost 1/4" thick obviously to reduce heat transfer..

I just cut mine out of gasket material. Always have a roll or 5 laying around.

Thicker gasket is to prevent vapor lock if it has been an issue. Either one will work.

I have to double check for sure. Funny thing is I've seen both over the years like you folks.

My 1974 c-160 when I first got it had the thin gasket and it didn't look like it had ever been off.

This 1975 has most certainly been off and reinstalled during the restoration 12 plus years ago.

Of course I don't know what the logic was of using the thicker gasket. It was restored by a former Wheel Horse dealer so maybe he had a preference?

Same gasket on all the big blocks. You can use either. No need for spec no's. Kohler shows only the 2 gaskets used. No need to overthink this. The thicker gasket is just a heat insulator

interesting that there are a whole string of variation numbers for each of the 2 part numbers...Wonder why Kohler decided to have two different ones...

Just out of curiosity has any of you experience vapor lock on a Kohler single cylinder?

They had issues with some applications getting the carb hot. Look at JD and CC and some of their enclosures to keep the noise down. Not as much air flowing  thru.

I have thick on the M-16 thin on 2 K-341s that I can see right now.  No differences ever noted in performance...

I do it that way as well, always have gaskets in stock :handgestures-thumbupright:

Still waiting on axle seals from my Toro-dealer, order placed three weeks ago...

If I always have to wait so long for a gasket, and have to pay $20...  Give me that gasketpaper any day!

Not that there is a need for it in a stock application but :confusion-confused:. I wonder if you would notice a difference buy installing a tube between the carb and engine, kind of like a high rise manifold? I installed a long intake manifold on a Harley once and it cooled the fuel air mixture so much that the intake would actually frost up at cruising speed even in 80+ degree weather. More oxygen in cold air than hot air.

A set of these are very handy to have when your making gaskets

Very cool tool set.

I've used a piece of coppah pipe to punchify a 3/4-ish hole too.

China Freight has a similar set that has a 1/4" hex at the top - chuck it up in a cordless drill and push it into the material. Slow speed RPM leaves a decent hole.

I put on a new carb and the thinner gasket and the result was the throttle would not move  .  I installed the thicker one and the throttle shaft had enough clearance .

A new development...

Turns out the "gasket" I have is actually a piece of plastic with a standard (fiber?) gasket on each side.

Perhaps a PO had an inkling of an issue?

Who's to say...

Just thought you folks would find that interesting.

I'll reinstall it as it was but with 2 new gaskets.

Probably an after market copy of the thicker gasket.  I have a couple like you describe came in Stens gasket sets for some big blocks...

I just put my 16 back together. The VERY thick gasket is what I have.

Many heat   insulator gaskets are plastic (phenolic)  with 2 thin gaskets on each side.
