Just remove the cover over the points and slide a dollar bill back and forth between the contacts. I have had good luck with Seafoam fuel additive to help clean up a dialect system that has been sitting unused.

  A GT14 is sure a worker!  It’s rare to have a tiller… or even the tiller pulley on the rear drive pulley!  
 

a couple things.  If you use the “at” symbol, you can tag someone.  @fullchoke just type the “at” then start typing a name.  By the way, are you a bird hunter?  I agree with Richard, polish the points instead of scratching them.  If you must use Emory paper, use the back side of it… like fold it closed.  Good luck getting it going!

Oldskool, whatever I decide, I'm sure parts are missing. Possibly mower deck pulleys are re-purposed on the sickle bar. I'm going to try to figure out what the mower deck should look look like, and how it is attached. I can't find a ID plate on the deck with blades. More pictures will be coming. I'm sure I will need help. 

Pullstart, Fullchoke is kind of a play on words. Choking is something nobody wants to do, actually or figuratively, or on a cold engine you give it full choke. Many times when I start something, I go in cold, so to speak, like this GT14. Before I saw it I had never heard of a GT14. You also need a fullchoke for those long shots when bird hunting. This mower project is turning into a longshot of sorts too.

I hadn't either. 

When I found mine I didn't know what I found.

It was a basket case. Engine was shot, all for wheels had rot. The tires were so far gone when trying to dismount them the sidewalls tore apart.

The wiring was a rodents nest.

Electric clutch didn't work.

I'm sure there was more I'm forgetting.

I wasn't looking for a project when I bought this one. I was looking for something I can use (make life easier) and if it took to much time and effort I would sell it. Once I saw it in person(it was listed online), I could tell it was quality built. Some older machines are built with too much quality, and they can't compete with the low priced, low quality stuff. I felt the GT14 had that high quality build to it and the existence of this site, validates that. The downside is parts can be hard to find, and finding out the main following is midwest and east, makes it even more difficult out here in Oregon.  I would like to find a basket case, but my son, who helps me with these things, thinks I already have too many projects, and he is definitely correct. I hope this one doesn't become too involved, or I will get pressure to sell it.

Your mower deck should have this type of attachment on top.

@fullchoke  make up a small cord with a clip , for that key , my tractor  keys are all clipped to the throttle lever , like a braided  fishing line , don.t ask me how or why i do this , pete

Thanks 953. I see many pieces missing for the mower deck too. Basically the parts that mount the mower deck that are on the tractor, and the bracket with the pulleys that send the power to the mower deck. It looks like he removed the mower deck, belt and attaching parts and put that with the decks. Then moved the tractor to where he was doing the sickle bar mod, and removed everything that was bolted to the tractor for the mower deck, and that went somewhere else. I'm sure it was all there, but the scrapper came through before the sale, so it's all gone now.  I have determined about when it was last used because the Napa filter for the hydraulics has 2018, and 822 hours written on it. The hour meter now has 826 hours.

The parts you need are not just for the GT-14, they were used from '67 to 1972 on all long frame @Ed Kennell has probably got he parts you need, he saves all these parts to help get other's back on the turf. Thanks Pete. I ordered the new key at my local lawn and garden center, and they told me it was back ordered, and it would take another week. So i really don't want to loose that key, once I get it.

More pictures of the mower decks etc. That one picture is just one of a loose tensioner pulley that I didn't know where it goes. I have some more on my sons phone. I'll get those up to.

Sorry some of the pictures are duplicates. The mower deck with the rubber on it is the one with the blades in it. It is highly modified, and has been repaired. The other one, has no blades, but could be the nicest one to use if the mounting parts and blades can be found.

A couple comments after studying the pictures.

I would check the electric PTO cluch early in the redo.   If it is not working, they are expensive to replace if you can even find one.    Many owners replace them with a manual system.

I am not familiar with the GT series to know if these changes are possible,  but since you do not have a PTO/ deck drive system, you may also want to consider adding a front attach-a-matic and a front mule drive instead of the older swing arm side drive system.        I do have the front mule drives and attach-a-matics and the older side drive parts and a support carriage for the deck that you want to use.

@fullchoke  just my opinion , but take advantage of  @Ed Kennell  offer on those attach  -a- matic  and pto drive parts and convert it . much more up to date for parts and running , parts and  pieces are much easier with the new type deck set up . worth a contact , pete

For the GT-14 you have a couple of good mechanical PTO options. The PTO from a 953/1054 would be the easiest. Another option would be the drive pulley and manual PTO from a 12 HP (1.125" crankshaft) on any pre 1973 Hydro like a charger, 1276 etc.
