Wheelhorse 312-8 not starting

Recommended Posts

Wheelhorse616

Hello, I recently  rebuilt my 312-8, when I tried to start it. Nothing would start, no lights, nothing on test. But when I used a wrench on the solenoid. I would turn over, I am not sure if my ground wire is in the right spot as I forgot where it went from before but it is on for anyone that thinks I left it off. Any thoughts? Let me know. Thanks!

What is the model number and serial number on the tractor?

Many changes to the wiring on the 312-8.

It’s a 1990 Wheelhorse 312-8 with the Koehler Magnum 12 hp engine. Just can’t figure out the wiring.

Turns out I found out the problems but can’t solve them yet, no ground on the tail lights, no ground off the oil level relay and no ground of the engine. I don’t know what the wires look like and where they go for those three locations. So if anyone ones a 312-8 and could send a few picture of what I am talking about would help out a ton. Thanks!

Part of the problem is the 312 design. The dash panel where the switch and light switch are located only has two screws they are usually rusted and also the panel. Clean those areas and tighten those screws. The key switch also need a good clean ground in that panel,if not you won't get power to anything. I would also suggest running a ground wire from a engine mounting bolt to the battery ground connection up beside the battery.

If this is your solenoid ground this picture may help.

That is the ground I think I have screwed up. Does anyone have a 312 that could snap a picture of where the solenoid ground connects and goes to. Looking around I think it connects to the negative terminal and then is grounded but not sure. Thanks

A short piece of wire from one of the small terminals to one of the mounting bolts will be fine.

I guessing from the negative terminal to the a bolt holding the engine on.

Just run the ground wire from one of the small terminals on your solenoid to one of the mounting bolts.
