Terry M-(Moderator) 2,175 #27 Posted November 6, 2021 I have used this with no issues..start using it towards the end of the season for summer and winter. It’s somewhat expensive but I haven’t had any issues with it. I like the premixed stuff too!😎
peter lena 8,634 #28 Posted November 6, 2021 @Terry M think that fuel shut off is uncalled for , use STA BIL IN ALL MY FUELS , and run clear vinyl fuel rated hose with 2 filters on my stuff , no junk in the fuel bowls , quick starts , regular ethanol gas , pete 3

peter lena 8,634 #31 Posted November 7, 2021 @roadapples agree with you on the fuel treatment , STAR TRON OR STA- BIL , since doing that no fuel issues , started with new fuel tank shut off valves , first fuel filter shortly after that , along with clear vinyl , fuel rated hoses , second filter close to carb . my 3 horses have the same set up , my regular experimentation , with any trouble spot , usually corrects it . then I adapt it to the other horses . jonw440 187 #32 Posted November 7, 2021 If storing longer then a few weeks. You could run the ethanol gas out of the tank(or drain it) then buy a can of ethanol free gas in a can(like Tru Fuel) and run that so the carb and fuel lines are full of the tru fuel. Good to go no worries on bad gas in the system.

Good to go no worries on bad gas in the system. Running ethanol gas in it at all is damaging even if just during the summer. Regular fuel tubing for example can't hold up to it and disolves then that gets into the fuel system.

D_Mac 8,621 #35 Posted November 8, 2021 I use e free gas on all of my tractors, mowers, generators, snowblowers... etc. When filling my gas can I pour stabilizer in the can. That way I am always refueling with stabilized e free gas. As far as shutting the gas off, I only close the line if there is a leak. My snowblower sits all summer and always starts back up with one pull. The generators get little to no use and I might need a squirt of starting fluid but run well after the initial start.
ET160 29 #36 Posted November 17, 2021 I have been doing this, but I am beginning to wonder about it. I have been having carb issues, stuck float, etc. I think I will just run Stabil now.

Even using the better fuel it's not unusual to need to disassemble and clean the carburetor every few years.
johnnymag3 2,520 #38 Posted November 17, 2021 I like to use Stabil, Marvel Mystery Oi, and Seafoam in all my Machines ….. I mix a blend of all 3 items in a vessel, then pour it in my 5 gallon gas can EVERY TIME I fill the 5 gallon can. Ends up being the best concoction I have ever used. 2 OZ. of each mixed well ….put it in the can, then fill with fuel for good mixing....never have a problem with any fuel. Just my personal preference. There is NO substitute for taking care of your fuel system....

It seems like I have to take the carb apart every year.

Search that site. Not using non-ethanol fuel it's not at all surprising that you would have to clean a carburetor once a year. I've had problems in as little as two or three months in the past. If you can get Non E, switch to it exclusively. We have quite a few small engines and I use no additives whatsoever. Just the non ethanol....
ET160 29 #42 Posted November 18, 2021 I found some non-ethanol gas about 10 miles away from me. Wasn't too bad, about $4 a gallon for 89 octane.

Lagersolut 661 #44 Posted November 19, 2021 I've been lucky - even after they contaminated regular gas with ethanol there's always been a station around to get E free . My horses and outdoor stuff has NEVER seen ethanol gas - I've worked on other peoples stuff seen the breakdown of the fuel systems first hand . For 27 years I've used Stabil to equal amounts of Marvel in each 5 gallon can non ethanol gas . Gas in the generator gets changed and used 1 time a year - if it's a dry summer and I can't burn it mowing I'll put it in my pick up . The only stuff I run dry is the seasonal stuff chain saws - weed wackers and the Try bilt horse . Briggs on the Troy bilt will start on 1st or 2nd pull after sitting 6 months dry Knock on wood I've never had a fuel issue this method seems to have kept my motors happy campers .
