RJ Hamner 1,007 #1 Posted October 31, 2021 Looks like I am going to need a new wear bar this year. Both sides are in pretty bad shape Any recommendations? Thanks Bob
rjg854 11,353 #2 Posted October 31, 2021 I want to a metal fabricator in my area and just got a piece of flat stock to length I needed and cut my own holes in it
8ntruck 6,991 #3 Posted October 31, 2021 (edited) Being mechanically inclined and owning a drill press, I would go to the local welding/fabrication shop and purchase a length of 2" by 1/4" bar stock to match the width of the plow. Drill the appropriate holes and mount it, A piece of abrasion resistant steel or a piece of 4140 pre-hard steel would laid longer than hot rolled steel. Good luck. Dang @rjg854 beat me to the draw. stevasaurus 22,711 #4 Posted October 31, 2021 I found the right length and width at either ACE or TSC and drilled the holes myself. 2 2
RJ Hamner 1,007 #5 Posted October 31, 2021 Did a search of the local folks and it looks like I will be making a trip to Lowe’s and dusting off the drill press in the next couple of days. Thanks for the input guys. Bob
ri702bill 8,294 #6 Posted October 31, 2021 Did make my own for the 48" plow on the C81 - used 4140 flat stock thru Online Metals. Drilled .375 holes and used a piloted new 3/8" square HSS lathe tool bit in the 20 ton HF press to cut the square corners. Cleaned them up with a square file to accept the carriage bolts. 71_Bronco 1,072 #7 Posted November 3, 2021 I used flat stock from Tractor Supply. I think I used 2" x 3/16" for the front. I have a small paved driveway, so the thinner stock will still last a long time. I had some issue with rust holes on the bottom of my plow where the bolt holes were. I used an additional 1" x 1/8" (if I recall correctly) strip as a "backing" to the bottom of the plow. This way, the nuts had a nice solid piece of metal to tighten against. ronhatch 406 #8 Posted November 3, 2021 (edited) I just purchase a 3/16" X 2" X 48" flat stock at my local farm store (Blains Farm & Fleet), cut it to 42" length, drill the 9/32" holes and use round head 1/4:" bolts. Even though it would have been better, I'm too old and lazy to deal with a file and make sq holes for carriage bolts. FYI: Carefully drill the holes in the middle of the 2" width so when it's time for a new edge, all you have to do is flip over the wear bar for a new edge.
