Where’s all the lawn rangers here?

I have a gear drive deck on my Commando 8 and I think it mows fine. I like the way it distributes the grass clippings.

To be honest I only mowed my lawn with it twice. Cut ok. My mower deck didn't have a roller on the front of it and my yard isn't that even. With a roller wheel up front it would have been a lot smoother. To be honest I owned a RR 8/32 that did a much better job if you are looking to go with a smaller mower.

Gear drive decks were the bomb when they were new and tight. Years of wear and old blades will take their toll. I've been tinkereing with a early 36" deck and if I got new blades for it I would probably get a nice 60's looking lawn. :happy-partydance:

Thanks.

I am among the members with extremely limited storage space. The Lawn Ranger is living under a tarp (though I have a place lined up for winter storage and will move it there soon). The rear-engine Snapper mulching mower, however, is enjoying garage space. It is quite compact and does a good job but I'm always curious about options!

LOL!

I should have noted that I've had the Lawn Ranger for only a couple of months (and had it running for only half that time!), it has no deck, and that as far as I can learn the decks of that era had no mulching capability. It is about as nimble as the Snapper but really has only 1 "mowing" speed out of 3 vs. 3 out of 6 on the S. It's not much different in size.  Thats why I asked about cut quality to see if it was worth pursing a deck.

Still not sure what to do with it, really. Except for crappy PO paint job and an HH60 upgrade from the H60, it's intact and runs very well. It did the 5 miler at @stevebo's M&G just fine on about ½ a tank of gas.

Okay, vote everyone!

The Horse should be in the garage... the Snapper should be under the tarp!!! :music-rockout:
