Travas 13 #1 Posted October 28, 2021 (edited) Ive recently pulley swapped my gt 1100. I believe it had a 3 or 4inch pulley in the front and 7inch in the back or whatever came stock. I put a 5 inch in the front and its still about the same speed. most likely because it is just a one inch difference. It also really likes to pull the belt off the clutch pulley. luckily I took the cover off the clutch side so i can put the belt back on but it gets annoying have to sloooooooowly ease off the clutch every time.also would like to know the size of the shaft on the transaxel since I cant find a tape measure in my shop or anywhere. Also what kind of oil do you guys put in your 11hp B&S . I use 5w-30 but think I should put something better in it since i put gas pedal on it. Also probably need to change the transaxel fluid because Its orange. edit: The transaxel is all stock on the WH. The "clutch "setup is just a belt tensioner if you didn't know. peter lena 8,720 #4 Posted October 28, 2021 @Travas , in addition to finding the correct pulley , suggest you spend some time detail lubricating that clutch linkage set up , nothing should be rusty or binding in any way , aerosol lubricant will make the rust run out , then a spray grease , and verification of function , with smooth easy engagement , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The clutch pulley and the clutch setup and all that is clean of rust other than light surface fading And little rust on the outside of the pulley It probably doesn't help that clutch pulley is sorta bent up for some reason. I have no experience with pulley swaps, but keep in mind we’re dealing with geometry here. C=pi*D. Keep in mind that the part of the belt in tension is the bottom--the engine is turning counter-clockwise looking at the PTO end. The belt should NOT be down deep in either the engine or transmission pulley--it should ride right up at the outer edge of the pulley or even a tiny bit above it. A bent or broken pulley can cause the belt to wear prematurely, or be thrown off. I'd also suspect that the three pulleys are not all in the same plane. You need a long straightedge to check this. The clutch pulley can get misaligned due to wear in the support shaft that runs through the tractor. Less likely but possible is that someone had the engine loosened or off and it wasn't put back on straight. Changing pulley sizes can cause interferences with the cover, require a different belt size, or prevent the belt from slacking properly when the clutch is operated. Ive had the engine off many of times. and for this pulley swap I drilled new engine mount holesso I can you the same belt. , chopped up the cover, and removed some unneeded stuff. Ive made the engine as straight as possible, and the pulleys aligned, but using a straight edge is a probably good idea. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Yeah I did that and it worked for a bit. but I fixed it. just needed to bend the pulley down and put the back cover on until I need to service it.
