Got Forked & Puting On Weight

Get yer minds out the gutter here. Came home tonite to find a very heavy box on my porch tonite.

Pallet forks (finally) came in and five minutes later mounted and  moving .... trying to move a beast of a tiller for the Super C. 

These are really nice forks and for 150 Washington's delivered could not have built a better set for the coin. I opted for the optional fork  stabilizer for an aditional 15 clams. Rated to 1500 lbs.

Figured they would be the cats meow for just moving a deck or three or an engine on a pallet. 

Picked the wrong try out for a 350 lb tiller tho. 

Quite obvious not enough rear weight since @cschannuth didn't throw in some more! Just Craig. 

Had a few mishaps but nothin as serious as running a 1/2 drill bit in my hand ain't that right 'Hosen??

Trouble is no matter where you go on my ranch it is either going up hill or down and it always seems up so traction is always difficult.  All blow sand and pine needles doesn't help.

 

Yep tiller fell off the skid ... 

 

Plan B just pick it up and set in back on the skid. ..now here's where lack of traction came into play ..... tires just dug ... did better with my carcass setting in the seat but still .... need weight to the rear. Test runs are always fun!

See those chain holes in the upper fork mounts? 

 

 

 

You really need to run a chain from those to the chain hooks on top of the bucket. Use binders to take the slack out of the chains. Else you is gonna bend the crap out of that bucket. Not my  or a suggestion, but a true fact.

Yes they are Dan case one wants to wrap a chain around the bucket ... chain grabs on the bottom side too then secure with a binder. 

Plan is to run nothing as heavy as to need a chain !   Nothin heavier than taken the little missus on a date.... maybe should run a 3/8 chain for that ???

Plan here is @cschannuth is  to trade Dan a finely patined gas tank strap for a ballast/chain box for it ... he's a way better fabber than me  ... borrow some outside weights off a plow mule and see how she does.  Guessing some 1 1/2" square tube would fit inside of the rear hitch setup nicely. Support the weight box with a bit of an extension for a drawbar? Figure I let Dan engineer it it will be done to match the tastes of the rest of the tractor! 

This hill I live on just sucks unless the load is very well distributed. One rear tire lifts a just little bit yer done.

Looks solid, good idee painting those tips yellow, have had my head banged on forks once( luckily they weren't sharp as yours), and tripped over them number of times.

I have the same forks and love them. Not gonna lift a ton of wood pellets or anything but real handy for small jobs and don't take up any room when not using them. Mine didn't come with that connecting support though.

@WHX?? Jimbo I have a buddy here in Maine who's elderly dad bought a new green tractor with a loader. 

 

In his case it's clearly stated by the dealer that the rear weight is a required part of the loader and should be on the tractor. ALWAYS. 

Empty or loaded. 

 

As to the hilly land.... Yeah buddy us too. 

I can't speak to a tractor... On a forklift it's a law that it's driven while facing uphill no matter the direction of travel. 

Also keep the load as low to the ground as possible at all times.

I kinked a bucket for the same reason. Had a tractor on the bucket forks and bounced a bit......kink!

 

Those are pretty nice forks!

 

As far as my FEL I use the forks 10 times more than the bucket.

When I built this one I put a pin on bucket that can be removed to use the forks, It also moved the load closer to the machine giving more lifting ability and control.

As far as weight goes, any overhung weight in the rear is way better than adding to the wheels. I do use both and I have additional weights I add for those extra heavy moves.

I built mine heavy duty, using 2 inch tubing sub frame and additional weldments. The xi machines weigh in alone at just under 1000 lbs, no loader included. 

75 on each wheel, and 400 in the box, I can handle 500 on level ground nicely. When i get on the slope I add 200 to the weight box and it really makes a big difference. That is a rare occurrence.

Yes Max  been thinkin to spray the whole fork with a florescent paint just for safety.

My thoughts the same Mikey... just to get a half dozen bags up to the porch at a time. About 240 lbs.

The support was optional but for 20 clams extra life's too short I thought. 

Any one have an experience with the clamp on ball hitch? That might be my next adventure once i get the rear weight thing nailed. Not for anything heavy mind you like the toy hauler but just for moving utility trailers around the yard. You guys know how nice it is to move a trailer on the front.

you just need a chain and a tire.  Pull the trailer with the chain, push it with the tire
