oliver2-44 9,750 #1 Posted October 22, 2021 My brother gave me this generator a while back. He's even a bigger scavenger than I am. I really should get it operational to be prepared for......anything. But hopefully just having fun!I So I would like to build a WH Generator Mount. It looks identical to the ones WH used. I used my hand grinder with a wire brush and got it spinning to produce 3 volts. Here my camera caught it coasting down to 1,9 volts. So I think it works. If someone that has one would add some dimensions to this drawing I would greatly appreciate it. I previously saved this picture where someone used a mule drive to make a mount. While this would be easy to fabricate, it seems just letting the generator hang from the belt end would put a lot of load on the bearing on that end. I'd appreciate yalls thoughts on the Pros and Cons of mounting it this way, or possible ways to improve this style of mounting. 3
Achto 27,574 #2 Posted October 22, 2021 It's very likely that you have the same gen as the ones. The gens were manufactured by Generac. You will have to hook it to the engine at a 1 to 1 ratio as it needs to spin at 3600RPMs to achieve a frequency of 60Hz. With a max output of 3000 watts it will require 5hp to operate at max capacity. Can't help you with dimensions, cause i don't have one but some one should be able tp help you out. 2

Jim, I could be wrong, but it appears to me the weight of the gen. is supported by the bracket and the push/lift rod. The knob (#15) is used to adjust the tension on the belt. It just seems like it would be good for the engine to not be at max rpm. I realize to produce the max needed 5HP the engine would only be operating at roughly 65% rated power. Would this be a good idea? (Had to stop and think about Throttle vs Power Output vs RPM. RPM and Power Output being 2 separate items and the engine would have plenty of Power Output capability since its not operating near full output.) Since I'm a Hydro guy, its like a Hydro Generator operating as an island i.e not tied to a large electric grid. The speed governor that controls the water inlet gates truly has to keep the turbine at generator synchronous speed to produce 60 cycle power. So it becomes very important that the governor is functioning properly.

WheelHorse_of_course 99 #8 Posted November 13, 2021 (edited) That's very nice. How do you adjust belt tension?
